Austin Peay State University’s Art + Design announces 2019-20 exhibition, visiting artist schedule

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Art + Design at Austin Peay State University is excited to announce its 2019-20 season of exhibitions and visiting speakers.
Generously supported by the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA), the Department of Art + Design can bring nationally and internationally recognized artists and thinkers to Clarksville with programming that is free and open to the public.

APSU Volunteers help new Govs into new homes

Clarksville, TN – On Thursday, August 22nd, 2019, the cars wrapped around Austin Peay State University’s Castle Heights, and as an intermittent rain dampened the air, families fell out of their cars all at once. They grabbed boxes and appliances from trunks and lugged them into the building.
APSU alumnus, retired faculty member creates Bonnie M. Chester Endowment

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) alumnus Dr. Edward W. Chester (’62) recently made a gift of $100,000 to the Austin Peay Foundation to establish the Bonnie M. Chester Endowment to honor the memory of his late wife. Chester gave an additional $8,000 to fund scholarships during the investment period.

Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay adds classes for children with disabilities

Clarksville, TN – The Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay State University (APSU) spans all age groups and skill levels, and the offerings continue to grow.
This semester’s offerings start September 9th, 2019 and the school is adding two dance classes – named Expressions Through Dance – that will embrace a learning environment for children with disabilities.

Alexandria Heide, above, will use patterns, rhythms and small dances to enhance the students’ creativity, imagination and motor and socialization skills. (APSU)
APSU welcomes Freshmen to Campus this week

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) officials will welcome more than 1,000 freshmen to campus residence halls this week, and most the new students will arrive from 8:00am to 3:00pm on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019.
Freshman Move-in Day also launches the University’s freshman orientation weekend, which we like to call APEX, short for Austin Peay Experience.

Celebrating a Tennessee Triumph: New monument to honor Clarksville’s suffragists

Clarksville, TN – On a July afternoon in 1914, more than 75 people crowded into a house on Madison Street for a meeting of the newly established Clarksville Equal Suffrage League.
The women who joined the league that afternoon spent the next six years facing ridicule and threats of violence in the pursuit of their goal – earning women the right to vote.
Austin Peay State University nursing student wins Vanderbilt’s Florence Nightingale Award

Clarksville, TN – In 1855, during the carnage of the Crimean War, a British newspaper man named John MacDonald crept through a dark hospital in Turkey, trying not to disturb hundreds of sick and wounded soldiers.
To keep from getting lost or bumping into beds, he followed a young woman through the building, pausing with her as she shined her lamp over the injured and reassured them with a few kind words.
Clarksville’s Movies in the Park features “Ready Player One” at Liberty Park, Saturday

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, August 17th, 2019, Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Movies in the Park, a free, outdoor movie series, will show “Ready Player One” at Liberty Park.
Pre-show activities, coordinated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, will begin at 5:30pm and include a video game trailer equipped with XBox 360, XBox One and Wii stations, provided by U Jumpin’ Foulks. Take a virtual tour or ride a virtual roller coaster courtesy of Austin Peay State University’s GIS Center.
