APSU Artist Shipley Displays Work at Nashville Airport
January 28, 2011
Clarksville, TN – Every day, hundreds of people from across the country arrive at the Nashville International Airport, and, shortly after getting off the plane, among the first things they see in Tennessee are the innovative and highly-stylized ceramic sculptures by artist Ken Shipley.
That’s because Shipley, an Austin Peay State University associate professor of art, is among only a handful of artists from across the state to have his work exhibited at the airport as part of the “Flying Solo Series: Winter 2011.” The exhibit is part of Arts at the Airport, which is funded by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and the Tennessee Arts Commission. Maryville College Students Visit APSU to Learn About the Civil War
January 24, 2011
Clarksville, TN – On a cold afternoon earlier this month, a van drove through the melting snow in Clarksville and stopped at Austin Peay State University. A group of Maryville College students, bundled in jackets, quickly got out and went into the Morgan University Center. They’d spent much of the morning outside at Fort Donelson, and they were looking forward to a few hours in the warm indoors, learning about one of this city’s famous historical figures – Nannie Haskins Williams.
“Nannie is an important figure because she started keeping a diary when she was 16 years old in Clarksville, a year after Fort Donelson fell,” Dr. Minoa Uffelman, associate professor of history at APSU, said. “She kept it through the Civil War and after.” [Read more]
American Floyd Rocks the House at APSU
January 24, 2011
Clarksville, TN – American Floyd put on a great show at Austin Peay State University’s Music/Mass Communications Building here in Clarksville on Friday and Saturday Night. I was able to attend the Friday evening show.
The concert opened with chopper sound effects and then led into Pink Floyds Brick in the Wall and the video playing behind the stage on a 40 foot screen that tied it all together. Along with great music, the light and laser show was awesome. At one point while the show was jamming inside the fire alarms were triggered outside the concert hall, as the mist from the fog machines spread through the building. Of course there was no danger to anyone inside the show.
