Provost Lecture Series at APSU to explore stage fright

Clarksville, TN – The next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University will explore performance anxiety/stage fright as a nemesis in the lives of some professors and students.

APSU Military History Program Continues to Get National Exposure

Clarksville, TN – The Master of Arts in military history is a relatively young program at Austin Peay State University, receiving approval from the Tennessee Board of Regents only four years ago, but it is already garnering a national reputation as a respected degree program. That’s because the University’s M.A. in military history has received some rather prominent publicity in the last few years, including a recent article in the American Historical Association’s publication “Perspectives in History.”
The AHA, founded in 1884, is the largest historical society in the country. The article in its journal touts the APSU program’s “new military history” approach that stresses the relationship between war and society. [Read more]
Graduate education to be celebrated in March at APSU with 2 events

Clarksville, TN – At the beginning of next month, Austin Peay State University will celebrate graduate education with two back-to-back events to promote and showcase the scholarship and creativity seen in the next level of postsecondary education.
First, undergraduate students can learn about APSU’s career-enhancing online and on-site graduate programs at the Graduate Education Event anytime between 10:00am-2:00pm, Tuesday, March 1st in the Morgan University Center, rooms 303 and 305. [Read more]
APSU Grad Finale for Spring 2011 graduates

Clarksville, TN – Students scheduled to graduate in May from Austin Peay State University will have an opportunity to participate in Grad Finale, an event designed to make sure all preparations have been made for spring commencement.
Grad Finale will be from 2:00pm-6:00pm, February 28th and from 10:00am-2:00pm, March 1st. Both sessions will be in the Morgan University Center Ballroom.

Clarksville, TN – As the demand for biodiesel fuel increases across the globe – it is predicted to reach 12 billion liters this year – a previously unforeseen complication has arisen in the production process.
Glycerol, a colorless, odorless liquid, is generated as a byproduct of biodiesel production, and the sheer quantity that is created affects the economic viability of this industry. What should producers do with those billions of unneeded liters of glycerol? [Read more]
Annual GuitarFest Brings International Players to APSU

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will once again hold its annual GuitarFest, February 28th-March 3rd, bringing an exciting line-up of international guitar virtuosi to the campus. The performance line-up this year includes Croatian guitarist Ana Vidovic, Chilean guitarist Carlos Perez and the Douglas James-Pasquale Rucco guitar duo.
Vidovic, already a widely travelled international performer, recording artist and recipient of multiple international awards, will perform a program of classics by Bach, Tarrega, Albeniz, Lauro, Barrios and Castelnuovo-Tedseco at 7.30pm on Monday, February 28th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. Veterans Get Academic Help Prior to Enrolling in School

Clarksville, TN – Troops throughout the U. S. are returning from deployment. Many of them hope to use the Post-911 GI Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation to pursue college or technical school training. While they apply for benefits, most reflect that it has been quite some time since they were in school.
Filing for benefits is one challenge, but by far the biggest ordeal —hitting the books—lies ahead.

APSU to hold weather spotter training session next week

Clarksville, TN – The National Weather Service will conduct storm spotter training next week at Austin Peay State University.
The class will be held from 4:00pm-6:00pm, Wednesday, February 16th in the Morgan University Center, Room 308. Reservations are needed by February 15th.
The session will focus on how to recognize adverse weather conditions such as tornadoes and thunderstorms. More information can be found at www.stormready.noaa.gov .

Singer Williams to Share Gospel Music for APSU Winter Salon Series

Author, social justice advocate to speak at APSU

Clarksville, TN – Acclaimed author and social justice advocate Tim Wise will be at Austin Peay State University next week to discuss race relations and privilege.
Wise will present “Race Relations and White Privilege: Does It Still Affect You?” from 7:00pm-9:00pm, Thursday, February 10th in Clement Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
His talk is sponsored by the African American Cultural Center and Student Life and Leadership in conjunction with Black History Month.
