Dr. Victoria McCarthy and Dr. Robyn Hulsart, both associate professors of professional studies, won best conference paper at the May 2012 conference of The Academic Forum. The title of their paper was “A Crisis Management Plan for Ethical Misconduct and Financial Fraud.” [Read more]

More than a year ago, APSU launched Degree Compass, a course recommendation system to help students stay on track toward graduation by. It was dubbed “the Netflix effect” because it provides students with personalized recommendations based on their academic transcript, similar to the way Netflix makes movie suggestions to customers. Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won five awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held May 17th-18th at Middle Tennessee State University.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories. More than 150 entries were received for the contest period between April 1st, 2011, and March 31st, 2012. [Read more]

Original William Stafford “The Land Between the Rivers” Poem discovered in APSU Woodward Library

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – On a Wednesday morning in April, Kentucky journalist and author Carol Niswonger was busy combing through the archives at Austin Peay State University’s Woodward Library, conducting research for her new book on Land Between The Lakes, when she discovered something a bit unusual. Tucked away in a thin, manila folder was a short, hand-written poem titled “The Land Between the Rivers.”

“When I started to read it, I said, ‘that’s it perfectly,’” Niswonger said. “The poem, it epitomized the feelings of that area. It had such an emotional attachment to the land and the surroundings. I thought the poet was someone who lived there.”

Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell offers Master of Arts in Teaching for Fall I term

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay Center at Fort Campbell will offer courses for the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree for the Fall I term.

The M.A.T. provides opportunities for those who hold baccalaureate degrees to complete initial teacher licensure requirements and a master’s degree concurrently. The Fort Campbell Center program is available to individuals who wish to teach at the secondary level. Programs in elementary and special education are available at the downtown campus. [Read more]

APSU has 20 Faculty chosen as Summer Faculty Research Fellows

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University had twenty faculty members chosen as awardees in the 2012 Summer Faculty Research Program (SRFP), which encourages the development of research/creative activity projects at the University.

The SFRP awards up to $5,000 for selected proposals by tenured or tenure-track faculty to develop a research or creative activity project that should place them in a better position to seek external funding.

APSU Degree Compass noted as case study in new e-book

Chi Omega chapter donates painting to APSU in honor of 40 years on campus

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A new painting will soon hang in Harned Hall, on the Austin Peay State University campus. The artwork – a watercolor of the University’s quadrangle – was recently donated to the school by the artist, Lynne Waters Griffey, in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Sigma Kappa chapter of the Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity at APSU.

The print will hang with a plaque, acknowledging it as a gift from the chapter to the University.

APSU Governors Annual Bass Tournament is Saturday

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – The 18th annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament will be Saturday, May 12th at the Kentucky Lake at Paris Landing State Park.

The tournament will begin at 6:00am. Boats will take off in order of postmark of entry.

Registrations continue to be accepted for the two-person buddy tournament, which will award cash prizes. [Read more]
