Registration is now open for the 37th Annual Queen City Road Race

37th Annual Queen City Road RaceClarksville, TN – It’s that time of year again to lace up those running shoes and begin preparing for the 37th Annual Queen City Road Race scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, 2015.

The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 7K and 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning at Austin Peay State University’s Foy Center and ending inside the new Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus.

For over thirty years, hundreds of Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell school students, teachers and family members have participated in this Clarksville tradition.

Austin Peay State University’s Trahern Gallery 108 to present “I am Halftone” solo exhibition by Cynthia Sukowatey

APSU Department of Art - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Local artist Cynthia Sukowatey will be displaying her silkscreen prints in the show “I am Halftone” at APSU’s Trahern Gallery 108 from March 2nd-5th, 2015 between 10:00am-5:00pm.

The opening reception is free to the public and takes place on Monday, March 2nd from 5:00pm-8:00pm.

Acuff Circle of Excellence to honor Joe W. Giles with Ovation Award

Acuff Circle of ExcellenceClarksville, TN – Joe W. Giles, an Austin Peay State University alumnus and founder of the Tennessee Arts Academy, the nation’s flagship professional development program for teachers of the arts, will be honored March 1st with the George Mabry Ovation Award.

The award is one of eight to be given by the Acuff Circle of Excellence in recognition of outstanding contributions in the arts to the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. The annual ceremony will be Sunday, March 1st, from 2:00pm-3:30pm at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and a reception that follows. Austin Peay State University professor to speak on how to write book proposals that sell

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Dr. Gregg Steinberg is offering a seminar titled, “Writing a Book Proposal That Sells.” The seminar will be held from 3:00pm-4:00pm Thursday, February 26th in the Morgan University Center, room 303, on the campus of Austin Peay State University. The seminar is free and open to the public.

Steinberg will show participants how to devise a proposal for an agent or publisher and cover the key components of a book proposal. [Read more]

Clarksville’s Chocolate Affair a Sweet Indulgence

Chocolate AffairClarksville, TN – On Saturday, February 7th, Clarksville Parks and Recreation along with Planters Bank held the 3rd annual Chocolate Affair at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center located at 1190 Cumberland Drive.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to sample products from local vendors, restaurants and groceries. It was a festive event with everyone all smiles as they indulged in chocolate delights.

APSU to host ninth annual Spring Dance Concert

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance and Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ ninth annual Spring Dance Concert is returning this month, giving students and faculty the opportunity to present their work to the Clarksville community.

The concert is scheduled for five performances: 7:30pm, Wednesday, February 18th; 7:30pm, Thursday, February 19th; 7:30pm, Friday, February 20th; 7:30pm, Saturday, February 21st; and 2:00pm, Sunday, February 22nd. An Affair with Chocolate—Fabulous Fun!

Chocolate AffairClarksville, TN – It was my first visit to Chocolate Affair sponsored by Planters Bank and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department. At a cost of a mere $15.00, it was the bargain of the year. Seventeen vendors gave every attendee at least one piece of superb chocolate—and what a variety of treats!

Magician Russ Nowack startled chocolate eaters with appearing and disappearing coins and other mind-boggling feats. D J Folley of Big Fish Entertainment kept the music lively as kids in the audience showed off their moves.

APSU to host annual GuitarFest event

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts present the annual APSU GuitarFest, which will feature guest artist concerts, lectures and workshops.

The concerts take place on Monday, February 16th and Tuesday, February 17th at 7:30pm in the Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall and are free and open to the public.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for February 12th through February 15th, 2015

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Friends of Dunbar Cave Meeting, Bird Hike, Winter Trees and Sunset Hike.
