APSU honoring 9/11 anniversary with community art exhibit

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – This September, Austin Peay State University will commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a special community art project, Honoring 9/11 through Art and Art Therapy.

The program, conceived by Ken Shipley, APSU professor of art, and Melody Shipley, ceramic artist, is designed to support and engage individuals reflecting on the sacrifices of those who died on September 11th, 2001, and to honor those who rose in service and continue to serve as a result of that tragedy.

USS LST-325 arrives in Clarksville Wednesday, September 6th

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – The USS LST-325, 328-foot-long landing ship tank, will arrive in Clarksville on Wednesday, September 6th, 2017. The ship’s arrival in Clarksville is one of the many activities that are part of Visit Clarksville’s Welcome Home Veterans Celebration.

The LST-325 will be open for tours beginning at 9:00a.m. on Thursday, September 7th through 5:00pm Friday, September 15th. The LST will depart from Clarksville on Saturday, September 16th, 2017.

APSU strengthens online presence with new website

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Earlier this summer, Austin Peay State University unveiled a newly redesigned website, creating a stronger digital presence for the 90-year-old institution.

The new www.apsu.edu makes use of a cleaner design, focusing on images and videos that highlight the campus for potential students.

APSU Art + Design to unveil augmented reality exhibit September 7th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – This September, the Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design, along with the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA), will present “Dream Garden,” an augmented reality interactive installation installed in the new Arts Quad behind the new Art + Design building.

Beginning September 7th, “Dream Garden” will be a site-specific project by artist Matt Roberts, associate professor of digital arts at Stetson University; poet Terri Witek, professor of English and Sullivan Chair in creative writing at Stetson; and Michael Branton, professor of mathematics and computer science at Stetson.

Austin Peay State University Art + Design Building opens with ribbon cutting ceremony on September 12th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – After decades of rumors, speculations and wild hopes, a visual arts building is finally opening on the Austin Peay State University campus.

At 5:30pm on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017, the University will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Art + Design Building, followed by the dedication of a donor wall and six rooms named after donors, a reception and a building tour.

Austin Peay history graduate student Katelynn DiStefano takes part in archeology dig in Peru

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Archeology may not be a career Austin Peay State University history graduate student Katelynn DiStefano is pursuing academically, but that did not stop the graduate assistant in the University’s Department of History and Philosophy from spending part of her summer searching for mummies along the northern coast of Peru.

DiStefano joined University of Alabama Ph.D. student Jenna Hurtubise, along with a small group of students and archeologists, in traveling to the South American country, where they continued Hurtubise’s work in excavating and analyzing the history of the Casma, an underexplored ancient Peruvian culture.

Austin Peay State University alumna Licciardi releases debut book of poetry, “Skin Splitting”

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Bryanna Licciardi, a 2011 Austin Peay State University alumna, once went on a boring date with infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

“Towards the end of my Master of Fine Arts program in Boston, I fell asleep one night watching a documentary about (Gacy),” Licciardi said. “Not your typical bedtime story, I know, but I have a horror hobby.

Fiction, poetry and film on display during Austin Peay State University’s Zone 3 Fall 2017 Reading Series

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Zone 3, the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ literary journal, welcomes a diverse group of writers, filmmakers and creative minds for its Fall 2017 Zone 3 Reading Series.

Steven Sherrill will travel to campus on September 19th, at 4:00pm to give a reading of his fiction.
