Clarksville, TN – Last week, Bryan Gaither’s grocery list called for 150 pounds of cornstarch. When asked what he was doing, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) physics lab manager explained he wanted to get a group of campers to walk on water.

The Austin Peay State University professor and chair of the APSU Department of Teaching and Learning within the Eriksson College of Education downloaded the app earlier this summer, while on a recruiting trip to China, and now whenever she picks up her phone, she learns of another potential international student eager to study at APSU.

Clarksville, TN – High school students attending the APSU Governor’s School for Computational Physics this summer learned ping pong balls can pierce a piece of ¼-inch-thick plywood.
But only with the help of a specially built ping pong cannon.

APSU Department of Physics, Engineering and Astronomy constructed a ping pong cannon earlier this year.
High school students jump into life-size Super Mario experience at APSU

Clarksville, TN – High school students are getting a Super Mario Bros.-sized treat this summer at Google-sponsored coding camps at Austin Peay State University.
The College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or STEM, has put up a life-sized set that depicts the first level of Nintendo’s 1985 classic Super Mario Bros. And it’s interactive, allowing students to run, jump and bash through the game, complete with boing, ping and slide sound effects.

On Thursday, the Board’s Academic Policies and Programs/Student Life Committee will meet at 1:30pm, with the Business and Finance Committee, Audit Committee and Executive Committee meeting consecutively thereafter.
APSU professors’ documentary “Clarksville 1937” wins at Nashville Film Festival

Clarksville, TN – A short documentary highlighting Clarksville in the 1930s took home one of the top honors at the 49th Annual Nashville Film Festival earlier this month. “Clarksville 1937,” directed by Austin Peay State University communication professors Karen Bullis and Kathy Lee Heuston, won the Tennessee First Grand Jury Prize for Documentary Short during the May event.

Middle College at Austin Peay State University holds 2018 Graduation

Clarksville, TN – Middle College at Austin Peay State University gathered recently for its 10th commencement ceremony, as faculty, friends and family watched 62 students receive their diplomas in APSU’s Dunn Center.
Melissa Champion-Emerson, Middle College APSU Principal, took a few minutes to proudly speak of her graduating seniors.

Fort Campbell High School holds 56th Commencement at APSU’s Dunn Center

Clarksville, TN – Fort Campbell High School held its Fifty-Sixth Annual Commencement Exercises Friday at Austin Peay State University’s Dunn Center.
The FCHS Class of 2018 graduated a mere 95 students, but their achievements were impressive, as was evidenced by the fact that this class received a collective $7 million in scholarship offers from universities around the country.
The ceremony began with a senior slide show, followed by a student processional to the traditional Pomp and Circumstance.
APSU leads national conservation effort with Southeastern Grasslands Initiative

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this year, Dr. Dwayne Estes, Austin Peay State University professor of botany, was eating lunch with Henry Paulson, the former U.S. Treasury Secretary under President George W. Bush, and his wife, Wendy Paulson, when the conversation suddenly turned to prairies.
Between bites, Estes explained that for thousands of years, grasslands covered much of the southern United States, but today, more than 90 percent of this vast habitat, along with the different creatures that called these grasslands home, has disappeared.
