Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts receives grant to bolster efforts with local school teachers

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts recently received a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to expand the University’s arts education partnership with the local school system.

That’s what the chair of the Austin Peay State University (APSU) chemistry department, Dr. Lisa Sullivan, said when she used a cheap plastic bottle, a little methanol and the free oxygen we all breath for a quick scientific experiment.

APSU names retired Lt. Col. Michael Peeler as inaugural assistant director for veteran and career advising

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) recently named retired Lt. Col. Michael L. Peeler, former U.S. Army Field Artillery officer, first assistant director for veteran and career advising.
In this new role, Peeler will provide career counseling to the University’s military-affiliated students, as well as assist students and alumni with career exploration, internship opportunities and job preparation.
Austin Peay professor Harriet McQueen’s stolen billfold found down the hall 32 years later

Clarksville, TN – Thirty-two years ago, during the 1987 fall semester, a thief snatched Dr. Harriet McQueen’s billfold from her desk drawer in the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Kimbrough Building.

Austin Peay State University names 2019 alumni award winners

Clarksville, TN – This November, during Austin Peay State University’s 2019 Homecoming celebration, the University will honor six distinguished individuals with this year’s APSU Alumni Awards.
The 2019 honorees are Outstanding Service Award recipients Dee Boaz and Shan Smith (’78); Outstanding Young Alumni Award recipients Catie Clinard (’11) and Bryan Johnson (’04); and Outstanding Alumni Award recipients Khandra Smalley (’05) and Richard Bibb (’65).
APSU feature twirler Izzy Melbin finishes eighth in nation in three-baton championship

Clarksville, TN – Feature twirler, Izzy Melvin, for Austin Peay State University (APSU) finished eighth in the nation in the advanced three-baton championship at this month’s America’s Youth on Parade U.S. and World Twirling Championships at the University of Notre Dame.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation to show “The Grinch” at Movies in the Park, July 27th

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, July 27th, 2019, Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s outdoor movie series Movies in the Park will show “The Grinch” at Liberty Park.,
Pre-show activities, coordinated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, will begin at 4:00pm and include a Grinch-themed photo booth, local artisan vendors, making snow using polymers with Austin Peay State University (APSU) scientists and a special performance by Acro Dance Express.

Clarksville, TN – For a moment, it sounded as if someone was trapped deep inside the metal barrel. This unnerving feeling grew more intense as gallery visitors walked toward the rusty drum.
It looked like a normal barrel, used to collect garbage or – for the more desperate – to build a fire on an icy winter night, but once visitors peered inside, they heard flat, unemotional voices offering up “thoughts and prayers.”
