March 8, 2009
The Felix G. Woodward Library at Austin Peay State University, the APSU chapter of the American Association of University Professors, the APSU Faculty Senate and Phi Kappa Phi will present a Library Athenaeum presentation, titled “Freedom of Speech on a University Campus and in the Workplace.”
Dr. Bruce Barry will conduct the presentation at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, in the Woodward Library. Barry is the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Professor of Management and a Professor of Sociology at Vanderbilt University.
Barry’s presentation will address restrictions on freedom of speech and other civil liberties faced by adults at work, the law’s lack of protection for basic civil liberties in workplaces and the complexity of free speech rights on university campuses. Barry’s talk will also deal with related aspects of free expression inside organizations and develop an argument that more expansive rights to free speech in workplaces and universities need not conflict with the pursuit of organizational goals. February 27, 2009
Austin Peay State University Women’s Studies Program and the student organization Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance present a production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” in commemoration of V-Day. The cost of admission is $5 and all proceeds will be donated to the Sexual Assault Center, Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee, Magdalene House and Safehouse.

The V-Day movement has raised more $60 million and educated millions about violence against women and the efforts to end it. These efforts include crafting international educational media and PSA campaigns, launching the Karama program in the Middle East, opening shelters and funding more than 6,000 community-based antiviolence programs and safe houses in the Democratic Republic Of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq.

In exchange for a scholarship donation, Clean Cut took on the job of producing an 8 to 15 minute film about Dunbar Cave, the kind of film that someone coming to the park can watch to get an idea of the wondrous place he/she has entered onto.
