APSU Child Learning Center holds Scholastic Book Fair

Clarksville, TN – The Child Learning Center at Austin Peay State University will hold a Scholastic Book Fair from 8:00am-5:00pm, beginning Thursday, September 1st and continuing through September 9th at the center.
The APSU Child Learning Center is located in the Sexton Building at 637 North Eighth Street.
Funds raised will help purchase books for the classroom libraries and the children. The public is invited to attend this reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers. [Read more]

APSU student First to study in new study-abroad program

Clarksville, TN – Twice in her lifetime, Kaydee Hankes (pronounced han-kas) has been to South Korea with her family, once when she was 9 years old and the second time at 14.
This month, the Austin Peay State University student is in another country to study art – but this time, she’s doing it solo.
Hankes, who is seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration, is the first APSU student to study abroad under a new program that APSU has joined to expand its opportunities for students.
Assistant Principal Named for Kenwood Elementary

Montgomery County, TN – Jeremy Cecil has been selected as assistant principal at Kenwood Elementary, replacing Tracy Hodges who was named Principal at St. Bethlehem Elementary.
Mr. Cecil has taught in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for 10 years, first at Woodlawn Elementary and for the last four years at Moore Magnet School, where he has been a fifth grade teacher.
He earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership at Austin Peay State University, where he also earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Reza the Illusionist to entertain September 8th at Austin Peay State University

Clarksville, TN – Considered one of the fastest rising stars in the magic industry, Reza the illusionist will perform next month at Austin Peay State University.
The show begins at 7:00pm, Thursday, September 8th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. Doors will open at 6:30pm.
The event, presented by the Govs Programming Council (GPC), is free and open to the public.
Creative writing professor kicks off lecture series

Clarksville, TN – The written words of Emily Dickinson, Sappho, Dorothy Allison, Abigail Thomas and Jane Tompkins all have something in common – their powerful voices speak for those misrepresented or underrepresented.
This is the basis of a research presentation by Dr. Amy Wright, assistant professor of creative writing at Austin Peay State University. She is one of several faculty members chosen to present their research and creative activity on campus during the 2011-12 academic year as part of the Provost Lecture Series.

APSU Expands Opportunities
Clarksville, TN – More Austin Peay State University students are studying abroad.
During the 2010-11 academic year, 132 APSU students took a course or pursued a study-abroad program outside the U.S. That’s up from 88 students in 2009-10.
“That’s a significant increase,” said Tina Rousselot de Saint Céran, coordinator of International Education at APSU. “I’m seeing about five students a day on average, and while that keeps me busy, I would like more in my office.”
Now, APSU wants the growing trend to continue, making sure even more students know about the opportunities in and benefits from studying abroad with APSU’s new initiatives. [Read more]
Stellar Theater and Dance Performers to Visit APSU this Year as Acuff Chairs

Clarksville, TN – For more than 50 years, Chicago’s famed Second City Theater and School of Improvisation has produced some of the country’s most beloved comedic talents. Its alumni – consisting of luminaries like Bill Murray, John Belushi, Steve Carell and Tina Fey – have gone on to successful careers in movies and television shows such as Saturday Night Live and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
At 7:30pm on October 7th, the group’s touring company will visit Clarksville to perform its hilariously original works on the Austin Peay State University campus.

Provost Lecture Series at APSU kicks off 2011-12 academic year

Clarksville, TN – Several faculty members at Austin Peay State University will present their research and creative activity on campus during the 2011-12 academic year as part of the weekly Provost Lecture Series.

APSU starts off 2011-12 year celebrating milestones, embracing challenges

Clarksville, TN – Plans for two new facilities, along with other developments, are strong reasons to be encouraged in the work environment at Austin Peay State University.
President Tim Hall spoke to faculty and staff during the annual convocation Wednesday, August 24th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.
Among the many exciting recent developments he cited in his address, Hall announced that the State Building Commission recently approved APSU’s request to build a new mathematics and computer science building behind the Hemlock Semiconductor Building.
