Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – As a Veterans Affairs financial aid counselor at Austin Peay State University, Elizabeth Stonerock was told she had a disgruntled student waiting to see her.

Walking out of her office in the Ellington Building to the lobby to meet with the student, Stonerock immediately was greeted with applause and cheers.

Lasaters Christmas Cash Sweepstakes winner receives $1000

Lasaters Coffee & TeaClarksville, TN – Lasaters Coffee and Tea has announced the winner of their $1000 cash sweepstakes giveaway. In a presentation ceremony Friday at the Sango location of the popular coffee shop, Michael Clark of Clarksville received his $1000 check.

In a promotion that included WJZM radio, and Clarksville Online, Lasaters offered a chance to win the one thousand dollars, along with other prizes including an ipad, roku box, and more. The contest received over eight thousand entries.

Record numbers of students are wanting to attend Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Based on the increased number of applications for the 2012-13 academic year, a record number of students want to attend Austin Peay State University.

So far for the Fall 2012 semester, APSU has admitted 1,365 undergraduate students, compared with 1,127 admitted this time in 2011, which is a 21.1 percent increase.

Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic affairs at APSU, said the rising student interest in APSU can be attributed to many factors, including the greater number of opportunities available to them in and out of the classroom. [Read more]

Wade Neely joins Clarksville Sports Network

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Wade Neely has joined Wjzm radio to join the Clarksville Sports Network in 2012. Neely comes to WJZM after 21 months as the Sports Director of WKSR AM-FM in Pulaski, Tennessee. Neely was hired, after a nationwide search, to join former Leaf Chronicle sports writer, James Horne, in launching a new sports show on 1400 Wjzm, “From the Sidelines,” weekday afternoons, 3:00pm-6:00pm. Neely will also be a staff writer for Clarksvillesportsnetwork.com, expected to be online in 2012.

Hank Bonecutter, President of Cumberland Radio Partners Inc., owners of Wjzm radio, is excited about the new venture. “We saw an opportunity to provide the Clarksville area with a more complete package of sports reporting, focusing on local sports, and the people who are involved in them. Calloway is an accomplished administrator with more than 16 years of experience. He has directed an effective and efficient community-oriented police operation, including patrol, investigation support, training, budget management and administrative services. Austin Peay Graduating Military Students to receive new APSU Coin

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Active duty military students who will graduate from Austin Peay State University next week will be the first class to receive APSU’s new military coin.

The inaugural military graduate recognition and coin presentation ceremony, with the theme “All Hail to Those Who Serve,” is scheduled for 5:00pm, Wednesday, December 14th in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.

The event is open to the public.
