34th Annual Queen City Road Race registration underway

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – It’s that time of year again to lace up those running shoes and begin preparing for the 34th Annual Queen City Road Race scheduled for Sunday, May 6th.

The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning and ending at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus.

Austin Peay State University Symphony to perform Classical Masterworks during free March 18th Concert

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – One afternoon in the late 1880s, according to a popular legend, the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky met with the man he considered a “mediocre composer” – Johannes Brahms. The topic of their conversation quickly turned to music.

“I can only write something that is beautiful,” Tchaikovsky is rumored to have pompously said.

“I can only write something that is perfect,” Brahms replied. [Read more]

18th Annual Governors Bass Tournament set for May 12th

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – The 18th Annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is just around the corner.

This year’s edition will be held Saturday, May 12th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing State Park near Paris, TN. Last season’s tourney was postponed one week from May 22nd, due to high waters and flooding that enveloped the area. Despite the delay, the tourney still drew 243 boats.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announces winners of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is happy to announce the winners of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest. Two finalists were selected from each of the participating elementary schools.

The overall winning artwork is featured on the official race T-shirt and event poster. Along with that honor, the top finalist has been awarded $100.00 for their art class. The top three finalists each won a Chick-fil-a party for their art class. Each finalist received a certificate and art kit which were presented at their schools.

2012 Clarksville Sports Festival to feature a variety of sports, athletic and outdoor activities this weekend

Clarksville Sports FestivalClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be kicking off its second-annual Clarksville Sports Festival on Saturday, March 17th, at the Foy Fitness Center located on the campus of Austin Peay State University, with a variety of sports, athletic and outdoor activities for the entire family.

The day-long festival is a celebration of sports and athletics in Clarksville and Montgomery County that will feature not only clinics, sports demonstrations and interactive areas, but also seminars and even an exposition area where over 20 of Clarksville and Montgomery County’s athletic and outdoor clubs, businesses and organizations will come together in one location. Austin Peay State University Spring Salon Series to discuss “Faces of Valor” book honoring county’s armed services veterans March 12th

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – In early 2003, Gerald Gilman, Randy Rubel and a committee undertook a monumental task. They put out a call for veterans and their families in Montgomery County to bring in pictures and service details for a collection to be titled “Faces of Valor.”

Those items are now displayed in the restored Montgomery County Courthouse, and a guidebook was printed, featuring 255 entries of soldiers serving from numerous eras. [Read more]

Hands on Clarksville to host Nonprofit Partnership Network Group Meeting March 14th

The NPN is a growing coalition of community organizations, businesses, academia and government working together to unify and support the nonprofit community.
