APSU hosts annual Guitar Festival February 18th-20th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University campus isn’t simply a home for some 11,000 students. Squirrels, rabbits, birds and a few feral cats have also taken up residence in the bushes and trees surrounding the red brick, Georgian-style buildings.
They come here because of the abundance of food, water and shelter, but they stay because the campus offers these creatures a safe place to raise their young.

Welch named coordinator of APSU’s Dickson campus

Clarksville, TN – Individuals interested in finishing their college degrees by enrolling at Austin Peay State University’s campus in Dickson County will now have a friendly face to help guide them through the process – new extended campus coordinator Audrey Welch.
Welch is now working at the Dickson Renaissance Center campus (which houses both APSU and Nashville State Community College programs) helping students interested in completing a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.). [Read more]
APSU Area of Theatre to present A.R. Gurney’s comedic play “Sylvia”

Clarksville, TN – Sylvia is a dog. A labradoodle to be exact. Sometimes on walks she speaks English, discussing philosophy and the universe with her human companion, Greg. More often, she runs excitedly around a New York City apartment, doing dog things such as chewing up books and annoying Greg’s wife, Kate.
“The dog becomes a bone of contention,” Dr. Sara Gotcher, Austin Peay State University associate professor of theater, said. “It becomes a problem between the husband and the wife, and it’s taken to a ludicrous extreme.” [Read more]
Black History Bowl at APSU rescheduled for February 1st

Clarksville, TN – The Eighth Annual Black History Bowl at Austin Peay State University has been rescheduled for 5:00pm, February 1st, in the Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall. The event, a scholastic competition open to teams from local schools, was originally scheduled for January 25th, but inclement weather and local school closings made it necessary to reschedule.
“The purpose of the bowl is to build a sense of collegiality among students,” Dr. Barbara Peterson, associate professor of education, said. “It gives them an opportunity to have a high command of knowledge and to apply that knowledge.”
Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan appoints Amie Wilson Director of Information Technology

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan has appointed Amie Wilson as the Director of the Information Technology Department for the City of Clarksville.
“I am very excited that Amie will be joining our team as the new IT Director. She is imminently qualified and has worked as a computer program developer, analyst and project manager for various projects in the IT field. I have every confidence that she will be a tremendous asset to the IT Department. Clarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of publications, conferences and credentials as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Sharon Mabry, professor of music, had her new book, “The Performing Life: A Singer’s Guide to Survival,” featured in the book review section of the latest Journal of the IAWM (International Alliance for Women in Music). The review listed her book as one of three recommended for reading. In addition, her book was noted in a review published in the Library Journal. [Read more]
8th Annual Black History Bowl at Austin Peay State University Friday

Clarksville, TN – February is still a few weeks away, but area middle and high school students are already studying and preparing themselves for Black History Month.
That’s because on January 25th, Austin Peay State University’s Student Tennessee Education Association (STEA) club will host its Eighth Annual Black History Bowl – a scholastic competition open to teams from local schools.
Customs House Museum and Cultural Center brings in New Art Exhibits for the New Year

Clarksville, TN – New art exhibits have sprouted from the walls of the Customs House Museum during this mild weathered January. The subject matters run the gamut of birds and bunnies to abstracts to landscapes.
The museum recently received wonderful additions to its permanent collection from renowned artists Hunt Slonem and Margaret Evangeline. Included in the exhibit New to the Collection is Slonem’s large-scale painting of rabbits, titled Hutch, and a representation from Evangeline’s famous “bullet” series, as well as, dollhouse photographs by Eric Hansen.

APSU awarded state grant to promote health, fitness

Clarksville, TN – Thanks to a state grant awarded to Austin Peay State University, designated walking trails on campus and nutrition education sessions are in the plans to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
The Tennessee Department of Health recently awarded the Eat Well, Play More Grant, which provides $20,000 in funding, to APSU to develop a program that will help those in the area have immediate access to an environment that encourages fitness and health. [Read more]
