Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – The Rivers & Spires Festival is currently accepting applications for the Miss River Queen and Teen Pageants as well as applications for volunteers and vendors.

The 11th annual Rivers & Spires Festival will be held April 18th-20th, 2013 in Historic Downtown Clarksville. This event has five stages of entertainment with over 100 entertainers performing all three days.

Austin Peay State University Dance Program expands Reputation

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In 2005, Austin Peay State University developed a dance minor program with one faculty member and a handful of students. Seven years later, the program has three full-time faculty members and several graduates enrolled in Master of Fine Arts programs around the country.

The name “Austin Peay” is also becoming more familiar in collegiate dance circles, with the school having choreographed pieces selected two years in a row to be performed at the American College Dance Festival gala performance.

Austin Peay alumna, family begin new nursing scholarship

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Mary Windham was known for her nursing and administrative accomplishments before coming to Austin Peay State University in the 1960s to teach and later organize the School of Nursing.

But that wasn’t her greatest gift.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University faculty member will lead the third annual Young Women’s Leadership Symposium on April 5th.

Dr. Marsha Lyle-Gonga, assistant professor of political science, will conduct the symposium, which has an anticipated enrollment of 100 women, from 8:30am-4:30pm, April 5th in the Morgan University Center Ballroom. Noted environmental landscape artist to speak at APSU Biology Honors Seminar February 25th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In the early 1770s, the American naturalist William Bartram headed south to explore the pristine, untouched region that would soon become known as the Southeastern United States of America.

Instead of forests and farms, he discovered wide, grassy savannahs spreading across Georgia and Alabama. He jotted down details of this terrain and drew pictures of the land in his notebook. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Dr. Marc Lamont Hill is a hard person to classify. He is an academic, serving as an associate professor at Columbia University. He also appears regularly on CNN, MSNBC and the Fox News Channel as a respected commentator and journalist.

Some know him simply as a writer, penning articles for the New York Times and authoring books such as “Beats, Rhymes and Classroom Life: Hip-Hop Pedagogy and the Politics of Identity.”

At 7:30pm throughout that week, and at 2:00pm on that Sunday, the APSU Area of Theatre and Dance will present its annual dance concert, “Out on a Limb,” in the Trahern Theater. [Read more]

APSU Football Stadium funding approved by Tennessee Building Commission

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The State Building Commission approved Thursday, February 14th an increase in funding of $900,000 for renovations to Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium.

The additional funds were required to cover higher than expected construction costs and were provided by private gifts and a one-time plant fund investment, Mitch Robinson, vice president of finance and administration, said. The total expected cost of the project is revised to $16.9 million, he said.
