Clarksville, TN – The 100th anniversary of the establishment of Army ROTC programs in the nation is this year, 2016.
Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s ROTC program is celebrating with a week of events demonstrating its cadets’ commitment to the Army Values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage to commemorate the program’s centennial anniversary.

Austin Peay State University’s Dr. Sharon Mabry serves as Master Teacher and lecturer at Southern Illinois University

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Sharon Mabry, mezzo-soprano and professor of music at Austin Peay State University, was invited by Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a Master Teacher residency in vocal performance.
In this capacity, she worked with SIU’s voice faculty and classical vocal majors, as well as several students from the musical theatre program.

Austin Peay Active Minds chapter to hold “Send Silence Packing” suicide prevention event on April 8th

Clarksville, TN – On Friday, April 8th, APSU will display “Send Silence Packing,” a nationally recognized public exhibition of 1,100 backpacks representing the number of students who die by suicide every year.
The event is organized by the APSU chapter of Active Minds, the nation’s leading non-profit organization working to engage students in changing the conversation about mental health. Austin Peay State University is one of 11 college campuses in eight states hosting an event during the group’s Spring 2016 tour.

Predictably, however, when the oil wells ran dry, those residents left as quickly as they came – and the city atrophied.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics recently recorded another strong showing as its Math Jeopardy team placed second in a 24-school field during the 2016 Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Jeopardy championship.

Tribute to late educator Dr. Preston J. Hubbard to be held March 30th at Austin Peay

Clarksville, TN – A memorial to the life of former Austin Peay State University professor — and World War II hero — Dr. Preston J. Hubbard will take place March 30th at 5:00pm at the Preston Hubbard Veteran’s Colonnade on the University campus.
The event is open to the public, and all are invited to pay tribute to an educator who touched the lives of countless students, colleagues and friends.

Former Austin Peay State University Ag students honor “Doc” Hunt with endowed scholarship

Clarksville, TN – Local farmers call him “Doc,” but don’t let the informal nickname fool you. Whenever they see Dr. Gaines Hunt, retired Austin Peay State University professor of Agriculture, the word “Doc” sounds oddly formal.
“It’s a nickname, yes, but also a term of endearment and used with the highest level of admiration and respect,” Steve Settle, a Montgomery County farmer and former student of Hunt’s, said. “Each and every one of his students—myself included—will attest that we are better people, better leaders and better able to serve our chosen professions because of his influence in our lives.”
22nd Annual Austin Peay Governors Bass Tournament to be held May 14th

Clarksville, TN – The 22nd annual APSU Governors Bass Tournament is less than two months away.
This year’s edition will be held Saturday, May 14th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing State Park. Last season’s tourney drew more than 200 boats.
The tournament will benefit Austin Peay State University athletics. More than $12,000 dollars in prize money will be awarded.
