TBI casework yields Indictment, Murder Charge in Hardin County Investigation

July 26, 2016

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Non-traditional students come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. For some, marriage and a family changed their priorities, while others may have enlisted in the military or simply decided a four-year college wasn’t right for them after graduating high school.

Whatever the reason, each non-traditional student has a story and a unique journey that brought them back to school. To pay tribute to a student population at the very heart of Austin Peay State University’s mission, work recently began on a permanent art installation on the University campus, titled “The Cardboard Kids: Monument to the Non-Traditional Student.”

APSU’s Woodward Library receives donation of table built from remains of Port Royal covered bridge

December 19, 2015

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – For nearly a century, the Port Royal covered bridge stood as more than just a literal bridge that allowed passage over the Cumberland River’s Red River stream. Until its destruction in 1998, it served as a bridge between generations of Montgomery County residents.

Over the decades, the Burr Truss bridge overlooked children at play, private weddings and countless family gatherings.

On display at Austin Peay State University’s Woodward Library is a table made from salvaged material from the old Port Royal covered bridge. The table was created by Larry Ellis and Kenny Bishop, two APSU alums, in 1971. Also on the table are sculptures of founder of the Dewey Decimal system, Melvil Dewey (left) and author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (right). (Scott Summate, APSU)

The Woodward Library SocietyClarksville, TN – David Meador, a four-time golf national champion, once toyed with the idea of becoming a police officer. In the summer of 1966, the 18-year-old Meador worked part time as a police station radio operator, and one evening, he was invited to take a ride in a new police cruiser.

At some point during the night, the officer behind the wheel engaged in a high-speed pursuit of another vehicle, and he ended up crashing the new cruiser.

APSU University Department of Art presents “Sound”, an art exhibit at the Trahern Gallery

January 15, 2015

APSU Department of Art - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Inviting museum-goers to use their ears as much as their eyes is quickly gaining traction in the art community. Much like using color on a physical canvas, sound artists use the noises that exist around us to fill space and grab the attention of the listener in a way no different than a sculpture, painting or mosaic.

Students at Austin Peay State University, as well as the community at large, will have an opportunity to explore this branch of contemporary art when the APSU Department of Art presents “SOUND”, an exhibition of sound art held at the APSU Trahern Gallery from January 20th-February 6th.
