Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For the 16th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at Austin Peay State University (APSU) is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project.

Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or money for the purchase of books.

Hundreds line streets for Clarksville-Montgomery County’s annual Veterans Day Parade

Montgomery County Veterans Service OrganizationMontgomery County, TN – Dozens of entries in Clarksville-Montgomery County’s annual Veterans Day Parade made their way through the streets of downtown Saturday, as hundreds lined up along the route to show respect and appreciation for our community’s veterans.

A pre-parade presentation on the steps of the courthouse featured speeches by Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, as well as the keynote speech by this year’s Parade Grand Marshall CW3 John Clement, U.S. Army Ret.

Keynote speaker is Army retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 John Clement, who currently serves as the Field Representative for Congressman Marsha Blackburn representing the 7th Congressional district of Tennessee.

APSU student Mary Sencabaugh creates mural honoring 2017 eclipse

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On the afternoon of August 21st, 2017, the skies over Clarksville will go dark for approximately two minutes as a total solar eclipse blacks out the sun.

A once-in-a-lifetime event, the eclipse figures to draw hundreds of amateur and professional stargazers to town for the brief opportunity to witness history.

APSU welcomes authors, Vietnam War veterans Bud Alley and Jim Lawrence to discuss battle at Landing Zone Albany

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On September 9th, authors Bud Alley and Jim Lawrence will visit the campus of Austin Peay State University to discuss their experiences during one of the most violent clashes in America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.

The talk, scheduled for 4:00pm in the Sundquist Science Center, room E106A on the University campus, titled “The Ghosts of the Green Grass and Reflections on LZ Albany,” focuses on the battle at Landing Zone Albany. [Read more]

APSU professor’s “lifetime work” published, identifies state plants

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In January 1967, while The Rolling Stones performed on The Ed Sullivan Show and a blizzard dropped 23 inches of snow across Chicago, a young Austin Peay State University botany professor began a project that would take him nearly 50 years to complete.

Dr. Edward Chester, his suit then smelling of chalkboard dust and his dark hair pomaded in the style of Jerry Lee Lewis, sat at his desk that winter to write a comprehensive guide identifying all of Tennessee’s 2,878 vascular plants.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for February 12th through February 15th, 2015

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Friends of Dunbar Cave Meeting, Bird Hike, Winter Trees and Sunset Hike.
