The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – One afternoon in the late 1880s, according to a popular legend, the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky met with the man he considered a “mediocre composer” – Johannes Brahms. The topic of their conversation quickly turned to music.

“I can only write something that is beautiful,” Tchaikovsky is rumored to have pompously said.

He shuffles over to the Woodward Library, instead of the Einstein’s Bros. Bagel shop in the Morgan University Center, yawns and then gets to work studying.

Austin Peay State University’s new play explores “End Days” following 9/11 tragedy

Her husband, a survivor of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, suffered a horrible bout of depression and refused to leave the house.

And their daughter, Rachel, saw visions of both Jesus Christ and renowned physicist Stephen Hawking. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University students earn top awards at Tennessee Academy of Science Conference

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Last October, a group of Austin Peay State University mathematics and computer science students headed south to Jackson, TN, to attend the 121st annual meeting of the Tennessee Academy of Science. The event, hosted by Union University, brought together some 200 researchers and college students from across the state for two intense days of academic presentations.

Everyone seemed to have a good time, but earlier this month, several of those students learned that the conference was more fruitful than they realized. That’s because the awards for presentations were recently announced, with first-, second- and third-place prizes all going to APSU students. [Read more]

Sherry Kendrick, technical clerk in the Office of the Registrar, received the PeayFormance Customer Service Award. The Enrollment Management and Academic Support will present the award quarterly to a professional or clerical staff member nominated by his or her peers as exemplifying service above and beyond the call of duty to APSU students, faculty and the general campus community. APSU Students Meet Prime Minister of Quebec During Study Abroad Trip

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Late one evening, a hotel clerk slid a slip of paper under Dr. Karen Sorenson’s door. The Austin Peay State University professor of French was staying at the Hotel Clarendon in Quebec City, and the next afternoon she was going to embark on an intense study abroad program with a group of APSU students. For the next five weeks, the students would only be allowed to speak French.

To have a bit of fun before they left, Sorenson arranged for a morning of sightseeing through the historic, 400-year-old city. But shortly after waking up, she noticed the note under her door.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area Programs for August 25th through August 31st

Clarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer.

Upcoming events include: Childrens’ Theatre, Early Morning Nature Hike, Sinkholes, Eyes of the Night, Seeds and so much more!
