Austin Peay State University Botanical Garden showcases area’s rare and endangered plants

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A few years ago, three tall, flowering cherry trees grew on the western side of Austin Peay State University’s Sundquist Science Complex. They provided a nice, welcoming entry into the building, but in 2007, Tennessee suffered from a record-setting drought.

Temperatures reached 113 degrees Fahrenheit that summer, and by the fall, the 20-foot tall trees were dead.

Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre’s Les Misérables is a show you should not miss

Called Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables has captured the hearts of audiences around the world with its powerful affirmation of the human spirit. The Musical is running through May 10th.

Will Sevier stars as the noble Jean Valjean, who has been released after 19 years of unjust imprisonment in pre-revolutionary France, only to find nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. Breaking his parole in hopes of starting a new life, he initiates a life-long struggle for redemption during which he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert (played by Donald Groves), who refuses to believe criminals can change their ways.

Jazz great Gregoire Maret to headline 53rd annual Mid-South Jazz Festival at APSU

APSU Department of MusicClarksville, TN – At 92, Toots Thielemans is considered the world’s greatest jazz harmonica musician, having played with luminaries such as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.

In 2012, Thielemans made a guest appearance on 37-year-old Gregoire Maret’s self-titled debut solo album, and most music critics saw this as a passing of the baton to a new master of the jazz harmonica.

Theatrical Sensation “Les Miserables” Takes the Stage of the Roxy Regional Theatre, March 28th – May 10th

Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, March 29th, to Launch Seven-Week Run

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – Epic, grand and uplifting, “Les Miserables” has captured the hearts of audiences around the country, and its powerful affirmation of the human spirit has made this adaptation of the Victor Hugo classic an international smash-hit.

This spring, Boublil and Schonberg’s popular masterpiece takes the stage of the Roxy Regional Theatre, March 28th – May 10th.

A grand opening celebration with the cast on Saturday, March 29th, launches the seven-week run of “Les Miserables”. Following that evening’s 8:00pm performance, audience members will be invited onstage to socialize with the cast over champagne and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $50.00 (including the show).

Austin Peay State University official statement on APSU President Tim Hall accepting presidency at Mercy College

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University President Tim Hall announced today that he has accepted the position of president at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. His nearly seven-year tenure at APSU, which marked a period of tremendous growth and national prominence for the University, will come to an end later this spring.

“Lee and I will be departing Austin Peay at the end of the spring semester as I assume the position of president of Mercy College in New York,” Hall wrote in an email message to the campus community today. “We do so with excitement and anticipation at the prospect of new challenges, but with a measure of sadness that we will be leaving a place where we have enjoyed some of the happiest years of our lives.”

“A Year With Frog and Toad” now playing at Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – Spend four fun-filled seasons with Arnold Lobel’s beloved storybook characters in the Tony-nominated musical “A Year With Frog and Toad”, playing December 18th – 21st at the Roxy Regional Theatre.

In Robert and Willie Reale’s whimsical show, Frog and Toad wake from hibernation in the Spring, plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding, and learn life lessons along the way. Part vaudeville, part make-believe and all charm, “A Year With Frog and Toad” incorporates stories from Lobel’s four books, including the Caldecott Honor-winning Frog and Toad are Friends and the Newbery Honor-winning Frog and Toad Together.

Two APSU students earn award for research on Autism Spectrum Disorders

December 5, 2013

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Last month, two Austin Peay State University students – Tiffany Anderson and Kelsea Keith – won the Best Poster Presentation award at the Fall Conference of the Tennessee Association of School Psychologists at Montgomery Bell State Park.

Their research compared the recently published definition of Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: Fifth Edition (DSM-5) with the Tennessee State Department of Education’s definition of Autism. [Read more]
