Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library works to champion learning and reading, ignites imaginations, and delivers access to information and ideas. To this end, the library holds several events that are educational, entertaining and fun throughout the month.
In May, some of the events include: Sunday Movie Showing, Speak Up & Stand Tall with Ashley Cash, Tween Programming, Basic Computer & Facebook Skills, and Saturday Story Time.

APSU physics student named Deborah Gulledge “Scientist of the Week” at national lab

Clarksville, TN – The night sky is darker, the stars brighter, in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. The rural town sits about an hour south of Nashville, where the heavens are dimmed by excessive light pollution, and as a girl, Deborah Gulledge became curious about the brilliant stars above her home.
“I was always interested in astronomy,” she said recently.

APSU graduate student Celeste Malone lands highly competitive Twitter editorial internship

Clarksville, TN – Since 2009, Celeste Malone has been an active Twitter user. From watching live broadcasts to simply tweeting, there is always something for her to explore.
This summer, the APSU Communication graduate student will be using her Twitter and news reporting skills for Periscope — Twitter subsidiary — as an editorial intern in San Francisco, California. She was selected out of 65,000 applications for the position.

Austin Peay State University English major earns graduate assistantship to Auburn University

Clarksville, TN – After spending most of her life in Nashville, Madison Hobson decided to try a smaller, more intimate environment for her college career.
“I came to Austin Peay for the smaller campus community,” she said. “I wanted to be able to stand out more than I would have at a bigger school. Also, it offered two big things that I wanted—affordability and a quality education.”

Clarksville, TN – There is a psychological phenomenon, known as imposter syndrome, that reflect the belief that a person is inadequate or lacking in the skills to complete a task — the fear that your lack of preparation will be exposed when put to the test.
Austin Peay State University senior physics major Joshua Allen briefly understood that feeling when he began his summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Princeton University, but any fears he may have internalized quickly vanished when he began work at the Ivy League institution’s Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM).

Austin Peay State University student David Woods begins work on tree inventory of Clarksville campus

Clarksville, TN – There is a tree near the Browning and McCord Buildings on the campus of Austin Peay State University that has seen it all.
Over the years, the massive oak has watched Austin Peay grow from a normal school to a college to a University with over 10,000 students, all the while withstanding the passage of time — and the pounding of an F4 tornado that devastated Clarksville in 1999.

Clarksville, TN – Held in Waikoloa, Hawaii, the 2017 Glass and Optical Materials Division Meeting (GOMD) of the Materials Ceramic Society was an international affair, attracting hundreds of scientists from over 25 countries.
More than just a professional conference, GOMD also welcomed students from around the world, giving each a chance to learn from experts and discover the next steps in their academic and professional careers.
