Check presentation made on behalf on APSU’s recent Dance Marathon

Clarksville, TN – The annual Dance Marathon at Austin Peay State University, held September 23rd in the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, netted nearly $5,600 for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.
A check to the Children’s Hospital was made October 5th on the APSU campus.

APSU student competing in Miss Tennessee Pageant

Clarksville, TN – Katie Neely, who was crowned Miss Austin Peay in November 2010, is in Jackson this week competing in the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant.
Rehearsals, public appearances and competitions are scheduled for the entire week. The final night of competition ends Saturday, June 18th with the crowning of Miss Tennessee. The winner will go on to compete in Miss America later this year.
A 20-year-old junior at APSU, Katie is majoring in business administration.

APSU student organizations arrange car wash to help raise money for victims of tsunami in Japan

Clarksville, TN – Two student groups at Austin Peay State University have joined forces to raise money and educate the campus about the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in northeast Japan on March 11th.
The President’s Emerging Leaders Program and Student Life and Leadership will sponsor a car wash at 9:00am, Saturday, March 26th in the parking lot of Chick-fil-a on Madison Street. PELP students and students who sign up through Student Life and Leadership’s Saturday projects will work the car wash for donations only. [Read more]
Comedian, actor Loni Love to perform at APSU

Clarksville, TN – Comedian and actor Loni Love, named among the top 10 comics to watch by both Variety and Comedy Central networks, will perform stand-up comedy this month at Austin Peay State University.
The event, free and open to the public, will begin at 7:00pm, Monday, March 21st in Clement Auditorium. The show is sponsored by APSU’s Student Life and Leadership and the Govs Programming Council. [Read more]
Author, social justice advocate to speak at APSU

Clarksville, TN – Acclaimed author and social justice advocate Tim Wise will be at Austin Peay State University next week to discuss race relations and privilege.
Wise will present “Race Relations and White Privilege: Does It Still Affect You?” from 7:00pm-9:00pm, Thursday, February 10th in Clement Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
His talk is sponsored by the African American Cultural Center and Student Life and Leadership in conjunction with Black History Month.

APSU in school supply contest against MTSU until September 10th

More than just football will be taking place September 11th.
The Governors will play Middle Tennessee State University that evening at MTSU’s Floyd Stadium, but between now and September 10th, the two schools are competing to see which one can collect the most donations of school supplies for their respective county schools.
The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro and The Leaf-Chronicle in Clarksville are sponsoring the inaugural Presidents Cup trophy to honor the school with the greater campus collection of school supplies leading up to the game. [Read more]
