Team of Maurer-Pahmier-Haddon-Devine capture 14th Annual Ladies Golf tourney

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The team of Marcy Maurer, Paula Pahmier, Cinda Haddon and Linda Devine captured the First Flight of the 14th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament.

The quartet combined for a eight-under 64 in the four-person scramble sponsored by Austin Peay State University to raise awareness of women’s athletics. They slipped past the team of Margaret Jones, Jane Brake, Sharon Grimes and Nancy Howell, who shot a 65. The group of Betty Stanton, Jackie Jones, June Nicholson and Mary Lou Reynolds ended in third place with a six-under 66.

Week-delayed 17th annual Governors Bass tourney set to cast off Sunday

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – After a week’s delay, the 17th Annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament will cast off Sunday at Kentucky Lake, with boat launching from Paris Landing, Tenneesse, State Park.

The tourney originally scheduled for May 14th, was postponed as a result of extremely high waters and flooding resulting from recent rains.

For the first time in tourney history last year’s tourney was delay—two weeks—for similar water/rain-related reasons. The tourney still drew 269 boats.

17th annual Governors Bass Tournament has been postponed until May 22nd

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – The 17th Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament has been postponed until Sunday, May 22nd as a result of extremely high waters and flooding resulting from recent rains.

As a result, it means after the bass tourney successfully dodge storms and weather-related conditions for the first 15 years of its existence, the last two tournaments have been postponed. Last season’s torrential downpours and flooding caused that tourney to be postponed to Sunday, May 23rd. Last year’s tourney, despite the delay, still drew 269 boats.

14th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament slated for May 25th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The 14th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament, sponsored by Austin Peay State University athletics, will be held Wednesday, May 25th at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The four-person scramble is held to help promote awareness of women’s sports in the Clarksville community. The 18-hole tournament, which will begin with an 8:00am shotgun start that day (7:30am registration), costs $55.00 per person, including green fees, breakfast and lunch. Teams will be flighted at the tournament’s completion and cash prizes will be awarded. All entries must be postmarked by May 18th.

In addition, James Corlew Chervolet-Cadillac again is sponsoring a hole in one contest that will net the lucky winner a car lease for a year.

Austin Peay State UniversityChristensen, in fact, after learning he would be working on the development of an APSU app, purchased an iPhone. “I bought one solely for this purpose,” he said.

Development of APSU’s iPhone app began last fall – at a Governors football game. Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic affairs at APSU, approached Dr. Bruce Myers, professor of computer science and information technology, about the idea.

“He said, ‘Do you have any students who could do this?’” Myers said. “ I told him I was not an iPhone person, but that I was sure we could find someone.”

Denley wanted to make sure, though, that student involvement was a key element in the project. [Read more]
