Tournament benefits Austin Peay Athletics
Clarksville, TN – The 18th annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is just one month away.
This year’s edition will be held Saturday, May 12th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing, Tennessee, State Park. Last season’s tourney was postponed one week from May 22nd, due to high waters and flooding that enveloped the area. Despite the delay, the tourney still drew 243 boats.

APSU Sports: APSU Hall of Fame
Clarksville, TN – Jay Bailey, an All-American running back who owns the school single-season rushing record; Ashley Haynes, the versatile forward who scored 1,000 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds in her illustrious career, and Cheryl Holt, who led Austin Peay volleyball to 19 straight Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearances, including the 1991 tourney title, will be inducted into the University’s Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday.
The 9:00am, induction ceremonies in the Dunn Center’s front lobby will see the APSU Athletic Hall of Fame grow to 107. The newest inductees and their families also will be honored during halftime ceremonies of APSU men’s basketball home contest against UT Martin.

WAPX-FM 91.9 at APSU to broadcast Austin Peay Governors Basketball game against rival Murray State

Clarksville, TN – Radio station WAPX-FM at Austin Peay State University will broadcast live Lady Governors and Governors basketball in OVC action from the Dunn Center beginning Saturday, January 7th against conference foe Murray State University.
Coverage will begin at 2:45pm with the Lady Govs pre-game show featuring head coach Carrie Daniels. Tipoff for the Lady Govs is at 3:00pm.
Pre-game for the men’s contest starts at 6:45pm with tipoff at 7:00pm. [Read more]
Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser, Saturday, open to all fans

Clarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University and Murray State meet up Saturday, the Ohio Valley Conference’s most heated rivalry briefly will be put aside as fans unite in the fight against cancer.
In between the games, Wendy’s and Chartwells will be sponsoring the Coaches vs. Cancer Chili and Potato Bar, with all proceeds benefitting Coaches vs. Cancer. The Lady Govs host Murray State at 3:00pm, with the men’s game not set to tip off until 7:00pm Fans are invited to enjoy the pre-game meal while at the same time, joining up in the fight against cancer by making a donation to the American Cancer Society. Wade Neely joins Clarksville Sports Network

Clarksville, TN – Wade Neely has joined Wjzm radio to join the Clarksville Sports Network in 2012. Neely comes to WJZM after 21 months as the Sports Director of WKSR AM-FM in Pulaski, Tennessee. Neely was hired, after a nationwide search, to join former Leaf Chronicle sports writer, James Horne, in launching a new sports show on 1400 Wjzm, “From the Sidelines,” weekday afternoons, 3:00pm-6:00pm. Neely will also be a staff writer for Clarksvillesportsnetwork.com, expected to be online in 2012.
Hank Bonecutter, President of Cumberland Radio Partners Inc., owners of Wjzm radio, is excited about the new venture. “We saw an opportunity to provide the Clarksville area with a more complete package of sports reporting, focusing on local sports, and the people who are involved in them. We will host more sports on radio than any other radio station in Clarksville, and fill our website with more stories, photos and features than is available anywhere in the Clarksville area.”

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay community flexed its muscles, Sunday, when more than 80 volunteers gathered to supply holiday groceries to the Lincoln Homes Community – a section of low-income housing adjacent to Austin Peay’s main campus – as part of the Govs Give Back.
The second-year project, spearheaded by the Austin Peay Fellowship of Christian Athletes, included volunteers from many Governors and Lady Govs sports teams through the Student Athlete Advisory Council, as well as the Baptist Student Ministry, the Church of Christ Student Ministry, UCHURCH and AQUA. James Horne to join new sports network

Clarksville, TN – James Horne has joined Bonehead Promotions to help launch a new sports network in Clarksville. Horne was the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle’s Austin Peay State University sports writer and brings sixteen years of journalistic experience to the new venture.
He will anchor a new afternoon sports show on Clarksville’s only news talk sports radio station, 1400am WJZM, and be a contributing writer for Clarksville Online, and the Clarksville Sports Network.
Austin Peay Athletics shows steady progress in latest NCAA Graduation success report

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s athletics department received its annual NCAA graduation success rate report, which included the current federal graduation rates for each of the department’s 13 sports.
According to the NCAA’s graduation success rate (GSR), Austin Peay graduated 73 percent of its student-athletes who entered college in 2001, improving on its percentage from the previous year (71 percent). It is the third consecutive year Austin Peay has shown improvement in its graduation-success rate. [Read more]

Ladies are you ready for some football!

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s football coaching staff will host the fourth-annual Women’s Football Clinic, Saturday, July 23rd in the Dunn Center.
For the fourth-straight year, APSU has served as host to the clinic that features informative presentations by the coaching staff as-well-as an entertaining hands-on demonstration of some fun football drills, explanation of the rules by an OVC Official, equipment, nutrition, training and strategy. APSU head coach Rick Christophel, along with his assistant coaches, will provide instruction.

Clarksville, TN – With Austin Peay State University’s football season just around the corner, the Athletics Department is now taking 2011 Tailgate Alley registration forms.
The Govs kick off the 2011 season with a pair of road games – September 3rd at Cincinnati and September 17th at Memphis – before the home schedule begins with a September 24th, Ohio Valley Conference game against Eastern Kentucky.
