Austin Peay State University names former U.S. General Attorney Whiteside as General Counsel

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has announced that Dannelle Walker Whiteside, a distinguished attorney with an impressive national reputation, was recently named General Counsel.
The General Counsel position was created earlier this year to support the University and the Board of Trustees in its new governance structure.
APSU joins The JED Campus Program to support student mental health

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has joined the JED Campus Program in support of student well-being and mental health. The program is designed to identify opportunities to enhance emotional health and substance abuse and suicide prevention efforts on campus in order to ensure that schools have the strongest possible mental health safety nets.
APSU redefining first-year experience through “Foundations of Excellence” education project

The project, sponsored by the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education, will use a model of excellence to redefine the first-year college experience at Austin Peay.

Clarksville, TN – A distraught Queen Victoria asked members of her royal court to stop wearing lavish jewelry in the early 1860s. Her husband, Prince Albert, had just died, and the sight of such opulence offended the mourning queen.
In the months that followed, England’s aristocracy began dressing in black, and to stay in the monarch’s good graces, they adorned themselves in the less flashy marcasite jewelry. In that moment, a fashion trend was born.

APSU to Have Increased Autonomy with Local Governing Board
Clarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has appointed eight individuals to the newly created institutional governing board at Austin Peay State University.
The purpose of the appointments is to give the University increased autonomy to support student success as the state continues its Drive to 55 Initiative. Austin Peay State University’s governing board is one of six to be appointed by the governor, a result of the governor’s FOCUS Act passed by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year.
Austin Peay State University to hold Grand opening for Wayne and Marianne Ard Building October 13th

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will celebrate the grand opening of the Wayne and Marianne Ard Building — the new home of the University’s Health and Counseling Services— on Thursday, October 13th, with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The event will begin at 2:30pm, and is free and open to the public. A building tour and reception will follow at 3:00pm.
Early numbers show freshmen picking Austin Peay State University in record numbers

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University experienced a record 28.8 percent increase in freshmen enrollment for the Fall 2016 semester, making it the largest class in the University’s 89-year history.
Early projections indicate the University welcomed 1,878 freshmen this year, an increase from 1,458 freshmen in 2015.
