APSU Hosts 2011-12 Youth Leadership Clarksville
August 5, 2011
Clarksville, TN – A few days before the start of the 2011-12 school year, 30 high school students recently selected for the Youth Leadership Clarksville Class of 2012 spent the first part of their day getting to know each other – a crucial step before the afternoon’s activities.
One of the class members was tossed a ball. The student had to say his first name and toss the ball to someone else, who then had to repeat the previous names and add his at the end.
It’s a game designed to teach and build memory tools, said Dr. Robyn Hulsart, associate professor of professional studies at Austin Peay State University who led the exercise.

Clarksville, TN – On that first day, the reactions ranged from laughter to gasps of horror.
“A friend of mine heard screaming when people saw it,” Tobey Lee, an Austin Peay State University art student, said. “It scared them.”
That’s no surprise considering it was a death-defying scene they were witnessing. A painter, dressed in white coveralls, balanced on his toes some 15 feet in the air, to paint a red circle inside the APSU Morgan University Center.

April 9, 2011
Clarksville, TN – Some 13 years after his untimely death, the artist and musician Tom Malone is still fondly remembered in the Clarksville community. People often speak reverently of the former Austin Peay State University art student’s prolific and inspired output of work, ranging from painting to drawing to sculpture to jewelry to designing musical instruments and handcrafted furniture.
“To me, he glowed with creativity and I could sense that he had a better existence than me because he was able to let go of what was expected of him, exist through a job as a job and live life as an artist,” local musician Syd Hedrick wrote in an essay on Malone in 1999. [Read more]
