APSU’s Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center presents “Four Black Doctors” keynote

Daniel African American Cultural Center is excited to welcome “The Four Black Doctors” to the Morgan University Center Ballroom on February 10th from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Jeremy Campbell, PharmD, Corey Guyton, PhD, Steven D. Kniffley Jr., PsyD and Keyon Thompson, DPT, are four Black men who made a promise that changed their lives forever. While undergraduate students, they promised that they would all finish doctoral degrees before the age of 30 – a promise they fulfilled in the spring of 2013. [Read more]

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for life’s blessings, and the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature hosts an annual reading to benefit those less fortunate in the community the best way it knows how: through the written word.

Annual Card Party returns to APSU May 21st

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The semester is coming to a close at Austin Peay State University, which means it’s time for the annual Card Party on campus.

This year’s event, featuring games of Rook, Bridge and other card games, will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 21st, at the Morgan University Center Ballroom.

Two award-winning poets to read at APSU on February 6th

Famed historian David Goldfield to present new perspective on Civil War on February 4th at APSU

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In August 1834, an angry Protestant mob entered a Catholic convent outside of Boston, broke windows and furniture and then set the building on fire.

The next morning, the ruins of this small convent smoldered, but the fire of religious unease, which had ignited the riot, would continue to burn for another 30 years.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Every November, on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature hosts a benefit reading that not only celebrates the written word, but also raises public awareness of hunger in the local community.

Famed Marine Corps General to speak at APSU Military Alumni Dinner on October 25th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In July 1977, a young Austin Peay State University graduate named Ronald Bailey was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Thirty-four years later, in June 2011, that APSU graduate became the first African American commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, the oldest and largest infantry division in the Marine Corps.

Austin Peay State University to have reading by Poets Nancy Eimers and Karen Skolfield October 3rd

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In early 2012, award-winning poet Nancy Eimers read a poetry collection that was tender and serious, but also deeply funny and playful.

“This is a poet who pays attention to small wonders, who marvels that ‘sticks / can walk’ and ‘the roots of trees gather / forgotten rains,’ who takes to heart ‘the river’s stillness behind a fallen log,’ and yearns over human fragility, a child’s hand with its ‘twiggish bones, the little covering of skin,’” Eimers later wrote. “In and around and under the wit these poems are enormously tender.”

APSU celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with “Migration is Beautiful” series

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Visual artist Favianna Rodriguez will visit Austin Peay State University this October and provide a presentation and poster design workshop as part of programming for Hispanic Heritage Month.

In preparation for her visit, students created several eye-catching posters that incorporated Rodriguez’s artwork. Students in APSU associate professor of art Mark DeYoung’s class, Design Center, created 19 posters.
