With his famous quote, “Good leaders must first become good servants,” Greenleaf gave life to the servant-leader movement, which became a staple in college business classes and executive seminars at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st.

The question of why women often shy away from politics has troubled Dr. Marsha Lyle-Gonga, chair of the Austin Peay State University Department of Political Science, since she was a doctoral student, and in 2010 she decided to host an event to encourage a new generation of women to get involved in the political process.

Austin Peay State University hosting American Civil Rights documentaries and forums this September

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – This September, Austin Peay State University’s Felix G. Woodward Library and APSU’s Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center will host four documentaries on the history of civil rights in America.

The films are part of the National Endowment for the Humanities’ (NEH) Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle initiative.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Visual artist Favianna Rodriguez will visit Austin Peay State University this October and provide a presentation and poster design workshop as part of programming for Hispanic Heritage Month.

In preparation for her visit, students created several eye-catching posters that incorporated Rodriguez’s artwork. Students in APSU associate professor of art Mark DeYoung’s class, Design Center, created 19 posters.

Congressman Phil Roe guest speaker at Austin Peay State University

Dr. Marsha Lyle-Gonga, assistant professor of political science, will conduct the symposium, which has an anticipated enrollment of 100 women, from 8:30am-4:30pm, March 30th in the Morgan University Center Ballroom. The one-day seminar is designed to increase the political efficacy of women ages 18-24 through leadership development and civic engagement activities. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University faculty member recently selected for the APSU Summer Faculty Research Fellows Program (SFRP) will conduct the first Young Women’s Leadership Symposium later this month on campus.

Dr. Marsha Lyle-Gonga, assistant professor of political science, will use the stipend awarded from the University’s SRFP to fund the symposium, scheduled for May 16th-17th. The two-day seminar is designed to increase the political efficacy of young women ages 18-24 through leadership development and civic engagement activities. [Read more]
