APSU to host recital with Kate Rawls, Mei-En Chou

Recital presented APSU Department of Music, Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present a guest artist recital by soprano Kate Rawls and pianist Mei-En Chou on Thursday, September 17th at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the University campus.

The varied program will feature beautiful, melodic songs and arias by J.S. Bach, Amy Beach, Gabriel Fauré and contemporary American composer, Ben Moore, as well as two exciting and atmospheric solo piano works by Ravel and Bolcom.

APSU professor Dr. Korre Foster to conduct Académie de Musique choir in Paris

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – In partnership with the French Académie de Musique, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of music Dr. Korre Foster will conduct a trio of choral performances in July in Paris.

Under a French-American exchange supported through a grant from the Florence Gould Foundation, Foster will be working with the Académie’s Chamber Choir, a collection of university, college and conservatory students gathered from throughout France.

APSU professor Ann Silverberg awarded Fulbright Scholarship for research

Following the Chinese Cultural Revolution of the 1960s, however, the revival of traditional folk music paved the way for Chinese people to rediscover the instruments that are unique to their culture.

APSU’s annual GuitarFest rescheduled for April 13th-14th

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – Having fallen afoul of last month’s wintery weather, Austin Peay State University’s annual GuitarFest will now take place on April 13th and 14th in the Kimbrough Building’s Gentry Auditorium.

On April 13th, multi-competition winner and APSU alumnus Gary Stewart will perform a recital of nineteenth century music for solo guitar. The April 14th concert will feature the Hanser-McClellan Duo in a performance of music for two guitars. Both evening concerts are at 7:30pm and are free and open to the public.

APSU Department of Music professor Dr. Patricia Halbeck presents “A Celebration of Creativity”

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University Professor of Music, Dr. Patricia Halbeck will combine music, visual art and creative writing into a unique event as she presents a solo piano recital titled “A Celebration of Creativity.”

The event will be held Monday, March 23rd at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the APSU main campus.

Beginning with music by J.S. Bach, Chopin, and Schumann, Dr. Halbeck created a series of oil paintings reflecting the mood and atmosphere of the music.

APSU to host annual GuitarFest event

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts present the annual APSU GuitarFest, which will feature guest artist concerts, lectures and workshops.

The concerts take place on Monday, February 16th and Tuesday, February 17th at 7:30pm in the Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall and are free and open to the public.

APSU hosting Fifth Annual Holiday Dinner December 5th and 6th

November 12, 2014

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – On a Saturday evening last December, a thin layer of snow covered downtown Clarksville. An icy, winter wind rattled the decorations hanging from streetlights, and most of the sidewalks were empty because it was too cold to go outside.

One of the only signs of life on that quiet night came from the center of the Austin Peay State University campus, where hundreds of people hurried into the Morgan University Center for the Department of Music’s Annual Holiday Dinner.
