GuitarFest features Grammy Award-winning Jason Vieaux in concert
Clarksville, TN – This February, Austin Peay State University and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present the annual APSU GuitarFest, featuring guest artist concerts, lectures and workshops.
This year’s festival will feature performances by 2015 Grammy Awards winner, Jason Vieaux, as well as the AronBerkner Duo of guitarist Stephen Aron and flutist Jane Berkner. The festival will conclude with a recital by current Austin Peay students from the University’s guitar program.
Celebrate the Season with Handel’s Messiah Community Sing at Madison Street United Methodist Church

Clarksville, TN – Nothing ushers in Christmas like the music of George Frideric Handel’s The Messiah, prophetic scripture of the promised One set to music in 1741.
And though the composition was originally performed for Easter in 1742, the music has become a steadfast Christmas tradition for symphonies and choirs around the globe.
APSU Department of Music’s Seventh Annual Holiday Dinner is December 2nd and 3rd

Austin Peay State University Opera Workshop to perform “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” on November 20th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Opera Workshop will explore the diverse works of one of history’s greatest playwrights, William Shakespeare, as it presents “Brush Up On Your Shakespeare” on Sunday, November 20th.
The curtain rises at 3:00pm, in the Mabry Concert Hall, located inside the Music/Mass Communication Building on the University campus. The show is free and open to the public.
APSU’s popular Halloween Concert returns for 32nd year on October 28th

Clarksville, TN – David Steinquest, Austin Peay State University professor of music, sat rubbing his gray beard, looking a little tired. For thirty-two years, he’s hosted the APSU Department of Music’s wildly popular Halloween Percussion Concert, and each fall, he tries to top the previous year’s performance.
“This is the biggest one ever,” he said, slumping in his chair. “I might have to just quit now.”
APSU student Austin Ward fights for music education in Washington, D.C.

However, Ward’s time as a university student has taught him that there is much more to music than just his instrument – and that music is worth fighting for at the highest levels of government.
APSU youth guitar finger style camp set for June 14th-15th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Music will host a two-day finger style guitar camp on June 14th-15th for students in grades 4-12.
The camp will promote music literacy through group rehearsals, guitar clinics and workshops, culminating in a guitar ensemble concert to end the camp.
Austin Peay State University’s Dr. Sharon Mabry serves as Master Teacher and lecturer at Southern Illinois University

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Sharon Mabry, mezzo-soprano and professor of music at Austin Peay State University, was invited by Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a Master Teacher residency in vocal performance.
In this capacity, she worked with SIU’s voice faculty and classical vocal majors, as well as several students from the musical theatre program.
Austin Peay State University’s Camp Granada music day camp expands in its fifth year

Clarksville, TN – As it prepares for its fifth year, Camp Granada, Austin Peay State University Department of Music’s summer music day camp, continues to expand its mission of providing area children with an opportunity to develop a life-long love of music.
Established in 2011 on the APSU campus, Camp Granada has grown throughout Montgomery and surrounding counties in both Tennessee and Kentucky.
APSU GuitarFest returns to campus February 15th-17th

The concerts, which are free and open to the public, take place on Monday, February 15th, Tuesday, February 16th, and Wednesday, February 17th, at 7.30pm in the Music/Mass Communication Building’s Mabry Concert Hall.
