APSU Computer Science and Information Technology students compete, present research at major competitions

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Students from Austin Peay State University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology have been active in recent weeks, competing in regional coding challenges, as well as presenting findings at a major academic conference.

Two teams of Austin Peay students recently made a strong showing at the Association for Computer Machinery-International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) 2017 Mid-Central USA Regional Contest, held Saturday, November 4th, 2017 at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Enrollment is open for Austin Peay State University’s EDGE Summer Video Game Development Camp

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – This summer, area high school students can learn the skills needed to create their own video game as Austin Peay State University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology presents EDGE, the Educating Developing Games Experience summer camp.

The EDGE camp will be offered in two sessions, with the first session lasting from July 10th-14th and the second session taking place July 24th-28th. Each session lasts from 9:30am-3:30pm and all sessions take place at the Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building on the University campus.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Before Northeast High School senior Rebecca Armstrong matriculates to Austin Peay State University this fall, the Clarksville resident will have the unique opportunity to represent the state of Tennessee as a part of the annual American Spirit Awards.

Held June 8th-10th at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, the American Spirit Awards celebrates individuals and organizations whose work reflects the values and spirit of those who served the country during the era of World War II.

APSU offering undergrad and grad programs in cybersecurity

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The numbers, released earlier this year by the Pew Research Center, are a little disheartening. According to the center’s recent survey on online security, 64 percent of Americans “have personally experienced a major data breach,” and 41 percent of Americans “have encountered fraudulent charges on their credit cards.”

For government agencies and businesses, both large and small, the news doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – To keep pace with the evolving needs of both students and employers, Austin Peay State University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology has made a number of changes to its current degree offering.

Beginning with the Fall 2016 semester, students making progress toward a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Systems may now pursue a B.S. in three new majors: computer science, computer information systems and computer information technology.

New minor in information assurance and security available through APSU’s Department of Computer Science and Information

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – As the world continues towards an all-digital future, the demand for workers trained in security and data protection has never been higher. With that in mind, the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Austin Peay State University has introduced a minor in the field of information assurance and security.

The minor, which is currently in place, requires the completion of 24 credit hours in courses including data communications and networking, network security, cryptography and computer forensics, among others.

APSU’s computer science program leads TBR institutions in graduating women, minorities

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For nearly a century, Austin Peay State University has been committed to providing higher education to students of all backgrounds, and the results of recent data from the Tennessee Board of Reagents System (TBR) serves as further proof of APSU’s success.

APSU’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was recently noted for graduating the highest number of computer science majors in the TBR system, with a total of 81 graduates in 2014-15. The total represents a 20-percent improvement over the previous academic year. [Read more]
