Applications sought for June Science and Math Academy at APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and the Tennessee Board of Regents will sponsor the Science and Mathematics Academy (SAMA), a free two-week summer program for interested area high school students, from June 3rd – 15th.

SAMA will allow high school students, who will be 10th- and 11th-graders in Fall 2012, to obtain an enhanced view of science and math skills, free of charge. Participants will live in an APSU residence hall, take college courses, attend various events, take college entrance exams, meet faculty and make new friends. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University Provost Lecture Series to discuss biofuel research

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University will feature a biology professor whose latest research may have implications in the area of biofuel production.

Dr. Sergei Markov, associate professor in the APSU Department of Biology, will speak at 3:00pm, Thursday, February 9th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The event is free and open to the public.

The title of his talk is “Conformational regulation of hydrogenase gene expression in algae.” [Read more]

APSU Student Clare Spielman to Attend Prestigious Max Planck Institute this Summer

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In a large, modern building situated in the northern industrial district of Freiberg, Germany, some of the world’s top scientists are attempting to understand the workings of the immune system, embryonic development and gene regulation.

That building is home to the internationally-renowned Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics, and this summer, Austin Peay State University student Clare Spielman will work alongside investigators, conducting groundbreaking research of gene regulation mechanisms. [Read more]

Five APSU Professors Honored with Annual Socrates Award

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Five Austin Peay State University professors have been singled out by their students and peers as exceptional teachers this year, earning them one of the University’s top distinctions for tenure-track faculty members.

Michelle Rogers, biology instructor, Christina Chester-Fangman, assistant professor of library administration, Dr. Benita Bruster, assistant professor of teaching and learning, Dr. David Nelson, assistant professor of history, and Dr.Mercy Cannon, assistant professor of English, were named this year’s Socrates Award winners, an honor bestowed by APSU annually to teachers who have excelled in motivating and inspiring their students.
