Dr. Mary Lou Witherspoon, professor of mathematics and the 2012 APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award recipient, will be the keynote speaker at both commencement events.

Austin Peay State University to break ground on new Math and Computer Science Facility in Fall 2012

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has announced it will break ground on a new mathematics and computer science building in Fall 2012 on the main campus.

The new $6.7 million facility, designed by Rufus Johnson Associates in Clarksville, will be located on Eighth Street, directly behind the Hemlock Semiconductor Building. The two-story building is projected to open in the spring of 2014.

APSU receives Partner Service Award from CMCSS, Chamber of Commerce

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For its many efforts to the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, Austin Peay State University was presented with the Partner Service Award on September 14th.

Local school officials and representatives with the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce presented the award during the annual Partners in Education Appreciation Breakfast at the Montgomery County Civic Hall.

APSU schedules 2011 Summer Commencement for August 12th at the Dunn Center

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will graduate its largest class of summer graduates at 2:00pm, Friday, August 12th in the Dunn Center.

University officials are reporting there are nearly 400 degree candidates, the largest summer class since APSU began an August ceremony in 2007.

Five APSU Professors Honored with Annual Socrates Award

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Five Austin Peay State University professors have been singled out by their students and peers as exceptional teachers this year, earning them one of the University’s top distinctions for tenure-track faculty members.

Michelle Rogers, biology instructor, Christina Chester-Fangman, assistant professor of library administration, Dr. Benita Bruster, assistant professor of teaching and learning, Dr. David Nelson, assistant professor of history, and Dr.Mercy Cannon, assistant professor of English, were named this year’s Socrates Award winners, an honor bestowed by APSU annually to teachers who have excelled in motivating and inspiring their students. APSU alumna who now is president at Columbia State to speak at Commencement

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University alumna who has served at the helm of two community colleges in the last 11 years will be the keynote speaker at APSU’s 82nd Spring Commencement.

Dr. Janet F. Smith (’69, ‘71), president of Columbia State Community College, will speak at both commencement events, with the first beginning at 10:00am and the second at 2:00pm, Friday, May 6th. Both ceremonies will be held in the Dunn Center.
