APSU awards degrees to more than 1,100 students

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University hosted its 85th Spring Commencement ceremony on May 9th, in the campus’ Dunn Center.
More than 1,100 students from the College of Arts and Letters, College of Behavioral and Health Sciences, College of Business, Martha Dickerson Eriksson College of Education, College of Science and Mathematics, and School of Technology and Public Management were awarded degrees.
APSU graduated 1,132 Students Friday, May 9th

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University on Friday celebrated the graduation of 1,132 students from its six component schools. Since 2008 the University has held two separate graduation ceremonies in order to accommodate its growing student body.
Family and friends of the graduates gathered on hand to witness the ceremonies and to celebrate what is likely to be one of the proudest moments in the life of their APSU student.

Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts to speak at Austin Peay State University Spring Commencement

Clarksville, TN – Tennessee state Representative Joe Pitts often refers to himself as “a proud 1980 graduate of Austin Peay State University,” and on May 9th, he’ll return to his alma mater to deliver the keynote address at the University’s 85th Spring Commencement.
He will speak at both commencement events, at 9:00am and 2:00pm, in the APSU Dunn Center.
APSU 2013: A Year in Review

Clarksville, TN – When future generations look back on the history of Austin Peay State University, the year 2013 will likely be remembered as a pivotal time in the University’s development.
In the last 12 months, the campus has changed tremendously, both in terms of its layout and its notoriety. New, state-of-the-art buildings are welcoming new students, and even the President of the United States is talking about APSU.
As the University community looks ahead to another big year, here are some of the top stories that defined Austin Peay in 2013.
Austin Peay State University Business Scholarship endowed by Clarksville resident to honor his late wife

Clarksville, TN – In the 1940s, Richard Powers enrolled in an economics class at Austin Peay State University. So did Mary Marks, and the two later were married for the next 58 years.
“We were both taking summer courses at that time,” Powers said.
His wife died in March 2008. To honor her memory, Powers established the Mary Marks Powers Scholarship for Business with a $50,000 endowment. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University receives Top National Award for improved efforts in Educational Fundraising

Clarksville, TN – Since 2010, Austin Peay State University has encouraged alumni, friends and supporters to give to The Legacy Campaign, the University’s current capital fundraising program that so far has significantly increased millions of dollars for scholarships and educational endeavors.
APSU is being recognized for its efforts with The Legacy Campaign.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education, known in the education circle as CASE, has selected APSU to receive the 2013 CASE Educational Fundraising Award, an honor given to superior fundraising programs at educational institutions across the U.S. [Read more]
Center for Entrepreneurship established at Austin Peay State University

Clarksville, TN – For Dr. John Volker, the establishment of the new Center for Entrepreneurship at Austin Peay State University “is a dream come true.”
“My excitement knows no boundaries,” Volker, a professor in the APSU College of Business, said.
Volker will serve as director of the new center, which was officially announced during a special event May 3rd on campus.

APSU establishes new Center for Entrepreneurship

Clarksville, TN – With initial funding from two businesses in Tennessee, the Austin Peay State University College of Business will establish the Center for Entrepreneurship to challenge students beyond the classroom and bridge community business with future business leaders from all areas of interest.
A formal gift announcement to jumpstart the venture is planned for 11:00am, Friday, May 3rd in the Gentry Auditorium, located in the Kimbrough Building on the main campus. The public is invited to attend. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University to Graduate its largest class yet, Marsha Blackburn to speak

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will award degrees to 1,222 students – the largest class in APSU history – during its 84th Spring Commencement on Friday, May 10th in the Dunn Center.
U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn, R-TN, who represents the state’s 7th Congressional District, will be the keynote speaker at both the morning and afternoon commencement events.
Reagan Giving Circle at APSU to have award luncheon

Clarksville, TN – The Reagan Giving Circle at Austin Peay State University will award more than $8,500 in scholarships to 10 APSU female students during its award ceremony next month.
The ceremony will be held at 11:30am, Monday, April 29th in the Clarksville Country Club, located at 334 Fairway Drive, Clarksville. Tickets are $25.00 per person.
