Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts awards Summer Research Fellowships

Clarksville, TN – For more than 25 years, the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts has been providing students with a one-of-a-kind experience in visual arts, music, creative writing, theatre and dance.
To further the Center’s goals of fostering the next generation of creative thinkers, a trio of students was recently honored with the Center’s first-ever Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
APSU students Megan Oelgoetz, Benjamin McCormack and Conor Scruton were chosen for the inaugural fellowship, each presenting a paper outlining their passions and, if selected, the topics they would choose to explore during their fellowship. [Read more]
Grammy winner Rhonda Larson to visit APSU as final Acuff Chair of Excellence of 2014-15

Clarksville, TN – The final Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence recipient of 2014-15, Grammy Award winning flutist Rhonda Larson, will bring her talents to campus for a series of lectures and master classes at Austin Peay State University the week of April 21st-28th.
During her residency, Larson will share her experiences as a performing artist, as well as offering insight and lessons to APSU and area students. Her visit to campus will conclude on Tuesday, April 28th, with a concert with the APSU Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Gregory Wolynec. The event will take place at 7:30pm at the Mabry Concert Hall, on the campus of APSU.

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts to hold reading event with two local authors tomorrow

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University welcomes two local authors to campus, as Andrea Spofford and Amy Wright will read excerpts of their works on Wednesday, April 1st at 4:00pm at the Morgan University Center, room 303. The event is free and open to the public.
Spofford is the author of two chapbooks, titled “Everything Combustible” and “Qikiqtagruk: Almost an Island.” Her first full-length book, “The Pine Effect,” is forthcoming from Red Paint Hill Publishing. A native Californian transplanted to the South, Spofford is poetry editor for Zone 3 Press, APSU’s literary press, and an assistant professor of English at APSU.
APSU Department of Art and Center of Excellence For The Creative Arts award inaugural Tennessee Artist Fellowship

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art, in association with the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to announce that Memphis-based artist Maysey Craddock is the recipient of the inaugural Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts Tennessee Artist Fellowship.
Craddock was selected from a list of outstanding artists from across the state compiled by APSU faculty for the honor, and will be awarded $5,000 to aid in the creation of new artwork. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University welcomes two award-winning authors, as Charlotte Pence and Adam Prince will read excerpts of their works on Thursday, March 26th at 8:00pm at the APSU Honors Common. The event is free and open to the public.
Pence is the author of two award-winning poetry chapbooks and the editor of “The Poetics of American Song Lyrics,” a collection of academic essays that regards songs as literature and identifies intersections between poems and songs.

Acuff Circle of Excellence to honor Joe W. Giles with Ovation Award

Clarksville, TN – Joe W. Giles, an Austin Peay State University alumnus and founder of the Tennessee Arts Academy, the nation’s flagship professional development program for teachers of the arts, will be honored March 1st with the George Mabry Ovation Award.
The award is one of eight to be given by the Acuff Circle of Excellence in recognition of outstanding contributions in the arts to the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. The annual ceremony will be Sunday, March 1st, from 2:00pm-3:30pm at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and a reception that follows. Clarksville Community Concert Association brings Dallas Brass to APSU Tuesday, January 20th

Clarksville, TN – The celebrated Dallas Brass will present its American Tableau concert in Clarksville this Tuesday, January 20th at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the campus of Austin Peay State University in the Music/Mass Communication building at Eighth and Marion Streets.“
A Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our ideal audience has a range in ages from five to 95. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music, while showing our audience how much we enjoy what we do.” says Michael Levine, artistic director and founder. This is part of the Clarksville Community Concert Association series.

Acuff Circle now accepting nominates for Ovation Awards

Clarksville, TN – The deadline is fast approaching for nominations for the coveted Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards in the arts.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations. Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, January 20th. The awards ceremony is March 1st at the Customs House Museum.
The sponsoring Acuff Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, is a patrons society of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The awards have been presented since 1996. [Read more]
