21st annual Bread and Words reading set for November 23rd on APSU campus

Clarksville, TN – Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for life’s blessings, and the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature hosts an annual reading to benefit those less fortunate in the community the best way it knows how: through the written word.
The tradition continues with the 21st Annual Bread and Words reading on November 23rd in the APSU Morgan University Center Ballroom.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Set to Unveil Public Art, Ribbon Cutting November 4th

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to a Ribbon Cutting for the first public art piece, Forged in Fire, installed in downtown Clarksville. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 4th, 2015 along the Upland Trail on South Spring Street.
During a violent storm in 1978, multiple fires broke out in Clarksville with one hitting Orgain Building Supply. [Read more]
Acuff Circle of Excellence seeking nominations for Ovation Awards

Clarksville, TN – The coveted Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards in the arts will be presented March 6th, 2016, but nominations already are being sought.
The Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, is a patron society of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The awards have been presented since 1996.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations. Nominations will be accepted now through Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 [Read more]
New Austin Peay State University art exhibit engages different senses

APSU Art Exhibit
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Trahern Gallery, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art and Design, is bringing “Traces: A Fragrant Installation,” by Stephen Watson, to Clarksville this autumn.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is now open and runs through November 18th.
APSU visiting artist lecture series to feature National Geographic designer

Acuff Circle to celebrate the arts at APSU with Soiree on Franklin November 6th

Clarksville, TN – The arts at Austin Peay State University will be on display and celebrated at the annual Soiree on Franklin on November 6th.

Amber Wallace Displays Mixed Media Americana at Planters Bank in September

Clarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will feature mixed media art by Amber Wallace from Thursday, September 3rd – Wednesday, September 30th.
Amber Wallace is an artist that likes to pay homage to the past. Her work is often executed on recycled/upcycled materials such as barn wood, vintage doors and windows, abandoned drawers and cutting boards, etc. By repurposing these materials, they are given a new life and new story, thus preserving a little piece of what came before us. Her work incorporates lots of color and texture, and she draws inspiration from nature, history, and from her little girl Posey.
APSU to host recital with Kate Rawls, Mei-En Chou

Recital presented APSU Department of Music, Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will present a guest artist recital by soprano Kate Rawls and pianist Mei-En Chou on Thursday, September 17th at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the University campus.
The varied program will feature beautiful, melodic songs and arias by J.S. Bach, Amy Beach, Gabriel Fauré and contemporary American composer, Ben Moore, as well as two exciting and atmospheric solo piano works by Ravel and Bolcom.
Austin Peay Department of Art and Design kicks off Visiting Artist Lecture Series with Linda Lopez

New art exhibit at APSU offers powerful look at slave trade

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Trahern Gallery, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art and Design, is pleased to open its 2015-2016 exhibition season with artist Stephen Hayes and his powerful body of work titled “Cash Crop.”
“Cash Crop” is an exhibition that invites viewers to walk into an emotional, physical and psychic space to confront the past, present and future.
