Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) professor Dr. Chris Gentry doesn’t know why his grandmother had the globe, the atlases or the subscription to National Geographic.
“I had no idea where some of the stuff came from,” he said. “But when I was a kid, we’d go to her house, and I would sit and spin the globe, put out my finger, stop it someplace and go, ‘What’s up with Greenland?’”

Clarksville, TN – In 1975, shortly after Bill Gates and Paul Allen formed Microsoft, a young Austin Peay State University (APSU) math professor decided to teach a computer class.
He didn’t know what the Microsoft duo was doing out in New Mexico, but the ’70s marked a sort of golden age in the young computer world, with the development of the first microprocessor, the floppy disk and the video game “Pong.”

Clarksville, TN – “Fortnite” lead technical animator Kaye Vassey’s art origin story involves her grandfather’s tractor doodles and, of course, Bob Ross. “My grandfather was a World War II Marine Corps vet – full on Marine Corps tattoo on the arm, the South Pacific war horror stories, the whole thing,” Vassey recalled to an animation class at Austin Peay State University.
“But what he really wanted – his family were plumbers, so he became a plumber – was to be an artist.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 with pre-parade ceremonies set for 9:00am in front of the historic courthouse (south side) on Third Street in downtown Clarksville.
Keynote speaker is Dr. David A. Wesner, pastor of Faith Outreach Church North, Adjunct Professor at Austin Peay State University and a Vietnam veteran.
Award-winning novelist Yarbrough to read at APSU on Thursday

Clarksville, TN – Alisha Jerles Horn (’09, ’12) never knew her grandfather, but sometimes, while walking across campus, she pictures him as a tall college student, dressed in an old-fashioned basketball uniform. William Grayford Nutt arrived at Austin Peay in 1937 as a 19-year-old athlete, and sometimes Horn imagines him waving at a pretty, young woman.

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Tim Winters, Austin Peay State University (APSU) Latin professor, raised his face to the warm, bright sky and said, “It’s a good day to sacrifice an eagle.”
Nearby, a golden eagle (or maybe just a turkey-shaped piñata, painted gold) was placed on an altar in the center of campus for the annual Homecoming sacrifice.
Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale starts Thursday at Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of the Library Fall Used Book Sale begins this Thursday, October 25th, 2018 at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library. Opening night will be a Friends-only preview from 4:00pm–7:00pm, however anyone may join the Friends of the Library for $5.00 at the door.
The book sale will be open to the public on Friday, October 26th from 9:00am–5:00pm and Saturday, October 27th from 9:00am–2:00pm.
Austin Peay State University counseling grad student Melody Shipley earns National Award for 9/11 art therapy project

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) grad student Melody Shipley, a ceramics artist, planned to focus on her pottery full-time, but then in 2015, she went horseback riding.
It was something she did often on her family farm, but that afternoon Shipley ended up on ground, twisting her back and dislocated a rib.
