APSU’s 2010 Distinguished Professor Award recipient to address degree candidates at graduation

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will send off 631 candidates for degrees during dual Winter Commencement ceremonies December 17th in the Dunn Center.

Dr. Karen Sorenson, professor of French and the 2010 APSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award recipient, will be the keynote speaker at both commencement events.

The faculty member who earns the Distinguished Professor Award in May serves as commencement speaker at APSU’s winter graduation.

Greenway Opening

Clarksville GreenwayClarksville, TN – On December 16th at 3:00pm the new 600-foot Greenway’s bridge will be dedicated and opened. The name of the donor who helped make the bridge possible will be announced. Upon its opening an additional 1.2 miles of walking trail will be open.

This addition will connect Pollard Road to the Hermitage Park/Kenwood School Complex. If you would like to see this come to the Pollard Road greenway hub.

Shuttles will be provided.

APSU business faculty help to form Clarksville Accounting Club

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In an effort to bring the Austin Peay State University College of Business together with members of the business community, accounting faculty have helped to organize the new Clarksville Accounting Club.

Lesley H. Davidson, instructor of accounting in the College of Business, said the club plans to meet eight to 10 times a year, with most meetings to be offered in conjunction with opportunities for continuing professional education (CPE) credit. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville gathered together to celebrate the holidays yesterday with the 51st Annual Clarksville Jaycees Christmas Parade. The streets were lined with people all trying to keep warm from the bitter wind and chill temperatures.

The Parade features area Businesses, Civic Groups, and Community Organizations. Each one competing in their category to the best in their division. The Divisions are Civic/Church (Churches, Community Organiations, Nonprofits, etc.); Corporate (City/County Government departments, Banks, Corporations, etc); Commercial (Small Businesses)

Countdown is on for the opening of the Indoor Aquatic Center

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation is looking forward to the opening of the much anticipated Indoor Aquatic Center. Beginning mid December, New Providence Pool, located at Cunningham Lane, will get a new look- it will be sheltered with a bubble like dome to allow for year-round use.

The Indoor Aquatic Center will officially open to the public, January 3rd, 2011, with a grand opening celebration taking place, Saturday, January 8th, 2011 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. This celebration will give the public the opportunity to learn more about the center by offering free admission all day long. [Read more]

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Be a part of a Clarksville tradition by celebrating this year at the 4th Annual Downtown for the Holidays celebration presented by the City of Clarksville and US Bank, in Downtown Clarksville, December 4th beginning at 3:00pm.

The event kicks off with the Jingle Bell Jog 5K sponsored by the City of Clarksville and R3. The race will begin at 3:00pm, followed by a youth run at 3:45pm. You can register now at www.active.com. Deadline to register is December 2nd.

Holiday Magic at the Public Library

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – An evening of music, magic and comedy are combined to delight families at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library this holiday season. “Holiday Magic” will be in the air on Friday, December 3rd, 2010 at 6:30pm.

Our favorite magician will be on hand to perform feats of magic to delight and entertain families. Scott Humston is an award winning entertainer who has presented his show across the US and abroad. His performance is known to cause fits of laughter, outbursts of applause and especially warming of the heart.

The library will close for regular business at 6:00pm and will reopen to an evening of fun to begin at 6:30pm.

To complete the evening, Santa will make an appearance from his home at the North Pole. Bring your camera to get pictures with Santa. This event is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Competitive Basketball Clarksville, TN – Tryouts for the Clarksville 4th-8th grade Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Competitive Basketball teams will be December 4th from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Richview Middle School.

Prior registration is not required and tryout times are as follows; 9 to 10 years-old, 9:00am to 10:30am; 11 to 12 years-old, 11:00am to 12:30pm; 13 to 14 years-old, 1:00pm to 2:30pm. [Read more]

Banking is Elementary with US Bank’s School Program

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – US Bank’s commitment to local schools as a Partner in Education has resulted in helping elementary students operate their own school banks.

Currently there are five active school banks at the following schools: Cumberland Heights, East Montgomery, Hazelwood, St Bethlehem, and Minglewood. Past partnerships included Sango, Burt and Moore as well.
