DHS and USDA Kick Off 2011 Summer Food Program
Local Agencies Throughout State Assist Children With Nutrition Needs
Nashville, TN – The need for healthy nutrition does not end when school lets out for the summer. Providing proper nutrition options is especially important for those children in low-income areas so they may learn, grow and be active throughout the summer months.
Thanks to the Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), free meals and snacks will again be available for low income children during the summer months through the 2011 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). [Read more]

Charter Group Completes First Series of Green Workshops
Montgomery County, TN – The first group of local manufacturers, businesses and government representatives completed the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) workshops in late May. The group began its endeavor in March, 2011 and worked and learned together through a series of three workshops that lasted approximately four hours each.

Unity Day
Clarksville, TN – Come out tonight and celebrate Unity Day with the Clarksville Area Churches at 1st Assembly of God Church on June 4th 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.
Austin Peay State University athletics director and basketball coach Dave Loos, along with Maj. General John F. Campbell, the commanding general at Fort Campbell, and Pastor Wess Morgan, a contemporary recording artist, will receive the prestigious awards during the event along with several local pastors and non-profit organizations each of whom who strive to positively impact the Clarksville community.
Hosts Yolanda Stewart and Kevin Kennedy will return as the hosts for the 2011 Celebration of Unity Day that will be held at 1st Assembly of God Church located at 1186 Fort Campbell Blvd.

Several APSU faculty, staff recognized for achievements
Clarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff at Austin Peay State University were recognized recently for various achievements.
Dr. Dixie Dennis, dean of the College of Graduate Studies and associate provost of Grants and Sponsored Research, has had a productive academic year. In April 2011, she was one of about 600 health educators – from among approximately 70,000 health educators in the U.S. – who has obtained the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) distinction. Clarksville, TN – Students taking business, finance, accounting, economics or management classes next year at Austin Peay State University might notice a new spirit of entrepreneurship and service in their courses.
