APSU’s Meacham Apartments to undergo Structural Repairs
Clarksville, TN – Last week, APSU physical plant staff discovered settlement cracks in the exterior façade of Meacham Apartments while conducting routine building maintenance. APSU officials are working with state and local officials to remediate the problem.
Meacham Apartments, an apartment style living complex built in 1981 and located on West Avenue, has settlement cracks in three of its five structures, including cracks in a walkway connecting the buildings. The settling is believed to be caused by water damage, likely from flooding conditions during recent years, according to APSU officials. [Read more]
U.S. Sen. Corker speaks to PELP students in Honors Commons
Clarksville, TN – Students in the President’s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP) at Austin Peay State University asked several questions of U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tennessee, during his visit on campus September 29th, but one in particular perhaps affects young adults the most in today’s times.
“What can the students do to get involved?” one student asked.

APSU P.E. Majors help disabled with sports, fitness skills
Clarksville, TN – Service learning in the classrooms is gaining acceptance in higher education as a way for students to help the community using the knowledge learned. One class is doing just that this semester.
For 30 minutes every Friday in the Dunn Center, students in the adaptive physical education course teach basic sports and fitness skills such as throwing and catching to clients of varying disabilities in the Progressive Directions Inc. program, which provides mental retardation services in Montgomery and Stewart counties.

APSU opening Subway restaurant on campus
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will expand its dining options with the opening of Subway restaurant on Thursday, September 29th.
The new eatery, located in the Catherine Evans Harvill Bookstore Building, opens at 10:30am.

SPAY-Ghetti Dinner Fundraiser
Clarksville, TN – On Friday, October 7th the Clarksville Montgomery County Humane Society is holding their Spay-ghetti Dinner at the Madison Street United Methodist Church. The dinner starts at 5:00pm with the last seating at 7:30pm.
Tickets are only $10.00 for Adults and $5.00 for Kids 10 and under.
Your support will help the Humane Society get one step closer to opening their Spay-Neuter facility. Clarksville’s first ever low cost high volume spay-neuter clinic.
Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools Director Announces Retirement Plans at Board Work Session
Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools Director Mike Harris announced tonight his plans to retire at the end of this school year. Fireball Run Adventurally in Clarksville on Thursday
Public Square will be Closed Off
Clarksville, TN – On Thursday, September 29th and Friday, September 30th, the Fireball Run Adventurally will be in Clarksville, TN as part of their 2,500 mile race and scavenger hunt.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to come out to Public Square, Downtown Clarksville, on Thursday around 4:00pm and on Friday at 9:00am to see the cars and meet the participants. This is a great opportunity to bring the whole family out to see cars that range from custom Camaros to vintage classics. APSU Educational Opportunity Center awarded $1.8M Grant
Clarksville, TN – The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Austin Peay State University a $1.8 million grant to continue funding the successful Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).
The EOC received funding for five years, from 2011–2016, for $373,614 per grant year. The EOC funding falls under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and is part of the TRiO Programs. The program is designed to assist low-income adults in entering college by helping them to overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. [Read more]
Faith Outreach Church Presents “Warriors Youth Basketball League”
Clarksville, TN – Warriors Youth Basketball League is a co-ed youth league for grades K-8th. This league is designed to create a safe environment for youth to learn and enjoy the game of basketball.
The pastors of Faith Outreach Church, Drs. William and Ginger Luffman are dedicated to serving the community and as a result have opened this league to Clarksville/Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Parents are invited to participate in the league through coaching, assistant coaching, refereeing, and of course as a spectator. [Read more]
Operation SERVE visits the Kleeman Community Center
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department would like to extend a big thank you to those volunteers from Grace Community Church’s Operation SERVE program who lent a helping hand to the Kleeman Community Center on Saturday, September 24th.
The group of volunteers completed a range of improvements at the Kleeman Center on both the interior and exterior of the Center.
