Liberty Park Remains Closed for Construction
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department would like to remind the public that because of continuing construction, Liberty Park remains closed.

Manna Café Ministries to hold Mobile Pantry this morning
Clarksville, TN – Tell all of your friends and neighbors that this Saturday, October 8th, Manna Café Ministries will be holding a Mobile Pantry at Fellowship United Methodist Church located at 2201 Peachers Mill Road. Free groceries will be distributed to those who are is in need of assistance, beginning at 10:00am (arrive early if at all possible!) Empty Bowls and Hands on Clarksville to hold a “Bowl-a-thon” Today
Clarksville, TN – Volunteers are needed to help make bowls at the 2nd Annual APSU & Hands on Clarksville Empty Bowl-a-thon to help fight hunger on Saturday October 8th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.
All bowls will be used to support the Empty Bowls event that is held in February and benefits Loaves and Fishes and Urban Ministries Food Pantry.
Come out for an night of free fun for a good cause.
Officer Beau Skinner Recognized by Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police as Middle TN Officer of the Year for 2011
Clarksville, TN – Officer Beau Skinner was selected by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police as 2011 Officer of the Year for Middle Tennessee. Officer Skinner was recognized for his heroic actions on the morning of January 25th, 2011, for entering a burning building and rescuing a woman and her two children.
He showed a complete disregard for his own personal safety and great bravery in this dangerous situation.

High school seniors, transfer students invited to attend Fast Track Admissions Week

That’s why, this fall, the Austin Peay State University Office of Admissions will host Fast Track Admissions Week, October 10th-14th. All high school seniors and transfer students are invited to this event.

New minor at APSU to help pre-professional health students prepare for graduate programs
Clarksville, TN – When a student comes to Austin Peay State University wanting to be a doctor, he or she can pretty much major in any field. Typically, students enroll in biology, chemistry or psychology programs, but a few have been known to get degrees in subjects such as English or history.
“But they have to fulfill a number of prerequisites in order to go to med school,” Dr. Cindy Taylor, professor of biology, said.
Those prerequisites include several courses in science-related fields, such as biology and chemistry, and many professional health graduate programs mandate that students complete a certain number of volunteer hours and job-shadowing experiences before they apply for admission. [Read more]
