His community service includes the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, United Way, Riverfest Entertainment Committee and Leadership Clarksville.

The City of Clarksville adds new local content to AT&T’s U-verse TV

PEG channel added to U-verse TV in Clarksville, Tennessee

AT&TClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville and AT&T Tennessee today announced that Public, Education and Government (PEG) programming provided by The City of Clarksville is now carried on AT&T U-verse® TV Channel 99.

This station is operated by Austin Peay State University (APSU). APSU’s GovTV channel provides its viewers live and rebroadcast coverage of OVC sports, classic arts showcase, NASA and various community events that also include Clarksville’s city council meetings. AT&T U-verse launched in Tennessee in December 2008.

Austin Peay State University featured on cover of new AT&T Clarksville Phone Directory

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University is featured on the cover of the new AT&T Real Yellow Pages directory serving Clarksville and surrounding communities.

APSU is the first to appear on the Real Yellow Pages’ newly designed cover, which was unveiled November 16th during a public announcement on campus. The photograph depicts the excitement of men’s basketball at APSU, one of 15 sports programs offered by the University.

Go Commando Donates $35,000 to Local Organizations

Go Commando Half Marathon and 5kClarksville, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband announced Tuesday they would donate $35,000 to local non-profits and community organizations. The largest recipients, Clarksville Area YMCA and Fort Campbell Historical Foundation were on hand to accept the donations.

“The intention of the Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k will always be to give back to the community; this money emphasizes that mission in a big way,” Channel Lemon, one of the Race Directors, stated.

Warriors rehabilitate with Wheelchair Basketball at the Kleeman Center

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department and the Warrior Transition Unit Occupational Therapy Clinic hosted a Wheelchair Basketball exhibition game on Wednesday, November 9th at the Kleeman Center.

Players in the league are all soldiers in the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Campbell. All of them have sustained a significant injury and are currently rehabilitating. The Kleeman Center will be hosting another exhibition game on Monday, November 21st from 1:00pm to 2:30 pm.

Austin Peay Provost Lecture Series features arts in economic hardships as next topic

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Despite what is happening in the economy, the arts can be a necessary component to hold a community together.

“In a time of such economic volatility, the arts are often overlooked as frivolous and less practical than other academic and technical skill areas, but frankly, the arts are a good investment for a community, a university and a family,” said Darren Michael, associate professor of acting and directing at Austin Peay State University.

Michael will discuss this topic in more detail as part of the next Provost Lecture Series. He will present “The Theatrical Stoplight: The Arts as an Educational, Social and Economic Cornerstone to the Community” from 3:00pm-4:30pm, Thursday, November 17th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. New organization at APSU give voice to nontraditional students

APSU Non-Traditional Student SocietyClarksville, TN – A sizeable portion of the Austin Peay State University population – around 42 percent – is made up of what is generally termed as nontraditional students. These individuals include single mothers, active duty military and veterans and just about anyone who didn’t enroll in college immediately after high school.

For years, these students struggled to create their own unique identity on the APSU campus, and this year they finally succeed with the formation of the Non-Traditional Student Society. The students initially chartered a chapter with the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society. Then APSU’s Office of Student Life and Leadership approved the creation of the organization earlier this fall, giving these students a venue to network, support each other and voice their concerns. Schools across the country nominate their top students every fall for this prestigious designation, but only the top candidates out of thousands of nominees are bestowed with the honor. Austin Peay computer science students perform strong at IBM sponsored competition

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Last weekend, a group of Austin Peay State University computer science students headed north to Kentucky to showcase their knowledge and computer skills at the 2011 Mid-Central USA programming contest, sponsored by IBM.

The students – Jaffer Ibrahim, T.J. Phillips, Brodrick Wiley, William Hancock, Dalene Hart and Jason Pack – broke into two teams and worked on eight problems during the five-hour contest. Scoring was based on the number of problems solved and the total time required to solve them. [Read more]
