APSU student to help excavate ancient Greek town this summer
Austin Peay State University
Clarksville, TN – Jennifer Miraldi, a junior classics major at Austin Peay State University, unfolded a large map and spread it over the desk of Dr. Tim Winters, APSU professor of classics, covering up his coffee mugs and a worn, paperback copy of Euripides’ plays.
“The site is called Gournia,” Miraldi said, leaning over the map and pointing at a small dot on the Greek island of Crete. It didn’t look like much on the crinkled paper, but in actuality Gournia is a stunningly beautiful archeological site, with ancient stone walls surrounded by lush green hills and the deep blue of the Cretan Sea.
Red River Sirens 2nd Birthday Bash this Sunday

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Roller Derby League is going on it’s 2nd Year of derby. They are having a Birthday Bash at Magic Wheels 1671 Fort Campbell Boulevard, Clarksville, TN, April 22nd 2012 from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
All ages welcome, $4.00 at the door!! It’s going to be a Skate-acular Good Time! They hope to see you there.
Clarksville Roller Derby formed in 2010 as the first active roller derby league in Clarksville.
West Creek Middle School Administrator Announced
Montgomery County, TN – Rebecca Keffer has been named assistant principal at West Creek Middle School, for the next school year. She will be replacing Stacie Batson, whose resignation takes effect at the end of this school year.
APSU receives financial gift from Florim USA to award scholarships to two APSU Students
Austin Peay State University
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University recently received a financial gift from Florim USA to be used for scholarships.
Florim USA has committed to fund annual scholarships in memory of its founder, Ing Giovanni Lucchese. The scholarships are for students majoring in marketing, computer science and chemistry.

First Advantage Bank and Austin Peay State University Present Free Workshops for Local Entrepreneurs

Local Walkers “Join the Movement” to Create a World Free of Multiple Sclerosis
Clarksville, TN – Have fun in the great outdoors and help create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis. Participate in the 2012 Walk MS event in Clarksville on Saturday, April 28th, and help the Mid South Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society raise funds for the nearly 9,000 residents living with MS throughout Tennessee.
The MS Walk will be held outside, rain or shine. Walkers will enjoy an event that features a walk at the Hilldale Church of Christ and a fun day with family and friends. Prior to May 31st, walkers will collect contributions from supportive local companies, family and friends. [Read more]
Spring Market at the Smith Trahern Mansion Friday, April 20th
Clarksville, TN – UT Montgomery County Extension Office is having their Spring Market at the Smith Trahern Mansion this Friday, April 20th. Country Eggs, Strawberries, Honey and so many fine crafts will be at the Market. The market will be from 9:30am until 1:30pm.

Applications sought for June Science and Math Academy at APSU
Austin Peay State University
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and the Tennessee Board of Regents will sponsor the Science and Mathematics Academy (SAMA), a free two-week summer program for interested area high school students, from June 3rd – 15th.
SAMA will allow high school students, who will be 10th- and 11th-graders in Fall 2012, to obtain an enhanced view of science and math skills, free of charge. Participants will live in an APSU residence hall, take college courses, attend various events, take college entrance exams, meet faculty and make new friends. [Read more]
