APSU to receive Green Certification from the City of Clarksville and Montgomery County on September 10th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In the last several years, Austin Peay State University has worked steadily to become a more environmentally friendly institution. A sustainable campus fee was developed in 2008 to fund green initiatives, such as recycling projects, energy and water conservation and the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles.

The University has also added solar panels at the APSU Environmental Education Center, installed Brita Hydration Stations to the residence halls and put in better irrigation systems for landscaping in certain areas of campus. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Many faculty at Austin Peay State University were recognized Wednesday, August 22nd for their years of service to the University.

Dr. Bert Randall, professor of philosophy, has been a fixture on the APSU faculty for 40 years, joining APSU when there was a separate department of philosophy.

He received the 2011 APSU National Alumni Association’s Distinguished Professor Award.

Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 10% of all pre-taxed food sales (excluding alchohol and promotional discounts) from any guest that provides a ticket or mentions the Central Band.

Riverfest Regatta hits the water September 8th at the McGregor Park Boat Ramp

Plastic Bottle Division New this Year

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – The Riverfest Regatta, sponsored by U.S. Bank, launches Saturday, September 8th, 2012 at 10:00am at McGregor Park Boat Ramp.

This year marks the 6th year for the annual Riverfest Regatta, where participants build their own boats using materials from a specified list, and race them on the Cumberland River. The heats are timed with the fastest time being declared the winner in the respective classes. The course is 100 yards long.

Check in for participants starts at 9:00am.

Clarksville Artist Lynne Griffey’s work selected for cover of 2012 South Atlantic Regional School of Christian Mission

2012 South Atlantic Regional School of Christian MissionClarksville, TN – Lynne Griffey, a member of St. Bethlehem United Methodist Church, had her art selected for a cover design for the 2012 South Atlantic Regional School of Christian Mission. Griffey’s work was selected from entries from the entire Southeast Conference region.

The 2012 theme for the mission is “That All Might Have Life”. For inspiration Griffey selected John 10:10, where Jesus proclaims “I have come that they might have life and have it abundantly.” Griffey interprets this scripture for her art. [Read more]

Go Commando Half Marathon Team will raise Money for Soldiers, PTSD

Go Commando Half Marathon and 5kClarksville, TN – On Saturday, October 20th runners will take to the streets during the second annual Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k. A special segment of these athletes will be racing for a cause, to raise awareness of the struggles surrounding PTSD and combat stress.

The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k powered by CDE Lightband will join the non-profit organization Not Alone in raising awareness of combat stress and PTSD and encourage runners to consider joining Team Not Alone as they prepare for the 2012 race.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – When W. Riley Braem (’10) first arrived at Arizona State University to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in theater, the school’s faculty challenged him to look deeper within himself to discover what he really wanted to do with his degree.

Braem immediately thought about Camp MARC, a summer camp for the mentally and physically handicapped where he has volunteered every year since he was 13. [Read more]

Riverfest partners with F.U.E.L to help collect food for children in Clarksville

2012 Riverfest - 25thClarksville, TN – Riverfest is excited to partner with F.U.E.L., a food subsidization program, by serving as a collection site for food donations, September 7th and 8th, 2012 at McGregor Park.

F.U.E.L (Full of Emmaus Love), is designed to feed children whose only food source may be the food they are receiving at school by collecting donations, bagging them and distributing to schools to place in children’s back packs each Friday. The program currently services 1800 children in the Clarksville Montgomery School System. [Read more]

Palmyra Community to hold Taste of Shiloh Event to Celebrate the Release of New Cookbook

Palmyra, TN – From 4:30pm till 7:30pm on Saturday, August 25th, 2012, the Taste of Shiloh Cookbook committee will celebrate their upcoming cookbook at the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with music, raffles, and most importantly, samples of the featured recipes. Raffle prizes will include aprons, kitchen baskets, gift cards, and desserts prepared by the women featured in the cookbook. Cookbooks will be pre-sold at the event.

Two years ago, a cookbook committee was formed to record the recipes of current and past members of the Palmyra community, to ensure that the recipes they had loved would not pass away with the women who made them.
