Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library collects food for Manna Cafe in November

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – Montgomery County is sponsoring a non-perishable food drive for Manna Cafe during the month of November. A collection box is located in each County government office.

The library’s collection box is located next to the elevator on the first floor. Please bring in food items, if you can, to help the less fortunate as the weather gets colder.

Buffalo Wild Wings to help raise money for Humane Society of Clarksville Montgomery County

Buffalo Wild WingsClarksville, TN – The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County is partnering with Buffalo Wild Wings to raise money. The Humane Society is participating in a 6-month test trial, and if they do well with it there could be other incentives available for them to take advantage of.

All you have to do is print as many of the attached sheets as you need and advise everyone in your party to bring a ticket with them to the restaurant between 5:00pm-9:00pm on any/all of the following Humane Society scheduled dates.

APSU hosts 18th annual Bread and Words reading on November 20th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Every November, on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature hosts a benefit reading that not only celebrates the written word, but also raises public awareness of hunger in the local community.

This year, the tradition continues with the 18th Annual Bread and Words reading on November 20th in the APSU Morgan University Center Ballroom. [Read more]

Clarksville Parks and Recreation to hold Friends of the Blueway meeting and public review for the Blueway project

Clarksville BluewayClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will hold the review of the Bobby Clark Blueway Access and Natural Area Park Development on Tuesday, November 13th. The meeting will be held at 5:30pm at West Creek Elementary School, located at 1201 West Creek Coyote Trail.

This open meeting will feature a power point map of the site, similar to previous public meetings and handouts regarding the planned construction of the Bobby Clark Blueway Access and Natural Area Park as well as the expected time frame for the project’s completion. [Read more]

New service-learning class providing language help for APSU students and local Hispanic community

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – On a recent Tuesday night, a group of Austin Peay State University students gathered inside a local church – Iglesia Casa de Restauracion. About half of the students went into a makeshift classroom to help adult members of the Clarksville Hispanic community learn English.

At the end of the 45-minute lesson, those Hispanic students then became the teachers, helping the APSU students with their Spanish skills.

APSU Spanish 2000 students and members of the local Hispanic community meet at the Iglesia Casa de Restauracion Church for a new service-learning ESL course.

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – 2012 has shown to be a very successful year for the Clarksville High School Marching Wildcats. With the graduation of 30 seniors, the new freshmen, returning students and staff members have worked and trained extensively this summer.

This fall in marching competitions they were rewarded for their efforts with wins at Montgomery Central Indian Marching Invitational, Northeast High School, West Creek Sound Marching Invitational and The Mid-West Tennessee Marching Band Competition at Waverly Central High School.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Three faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced publications or conferences attended as part of their professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Sergei Markov, associate professor of biology, had four chapters published in a reference book, Applied Science. The four chapters are titled “Biofuels and Synthetic Fuels,” “Bioprocess Engineering,” “Industrial Fermentation” and “Metabolic Engineering.” This publication is designed for undergraduate students, high school students and anyone seeking or planning careers in the field. Clarksville Parks and Recreation Facilities’ Hours to Change in Observance of November Holidays

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s three community centers will adjust their hours of operation this November to accommodate students in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and their holiday schedule.

The Kleeman, Crow and Burt-Cobb Centers will be open from 10:00am to 7:00pm Tuesday, November 6th and Monday, November 12th as students will be out of school for Election Day and Veterans Day. [Read more]
