Santa Claus to visit Clarksville Community Centers
Clarksville, TN – Santa Claus is coming to the Clarksville Community Centers this week!
Santa will be at the Crow Community Center from 6:00pm-7:00pm this evening, the Kleeman Community Center from 5:00pm-6:00pm on December 12th and the Burt-Cobb Community Center from 5:30pm-7:30pm on December 13th.
Each Center will host activities as well!
Austin Peay’s Help an Elf program provides Christmas gifts for children of students
Clarksville, TN – For the past 18 years, Austin Peay State University campus organizations and departments and individuals have served as Christmas angels, making sure income-eligible students had gifts for their children during the holiday season.
The tradition is called Help an Elf, and it started at a time when the APSU Office of Student Affairs observed the need to help single parents. Today, it’s more than single parents who need assistance. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – The goat, a runt in terms of size, limped around a make-shift pen set up on the grounds of the Austin Peay State University Environmental Education Center, or APSU farm.
His hoof was overgrown and infected, prompting APSU adjunct professor of agriculture Bob Moore to pull out a pair of metal trimmers and clip back the gnarled, black growth as if it were simply a long fingernail.

101st Airborne Division Band to perform Holiday Concert at Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library
Clarksville, TN – The 101st Airborne Division Band from Fort Campbell, KY will be performing in the atrium of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library at 6:00pm on Tuesday, December 11th, 2012.
This show will feature a woodwind group and a jazz combo for an hour-long concert. [Read more]
Clarksville Parks and Recreation to begin Softball and Kickball Spring Registration in the New Year
Clarksville, TN – A team coaches meeting will be held January 26th, 2013 at 3:00pm at the Burt Cobb Community Center, located at 1011 Franklin Street. This meeting will provide an opportunity for participants to voice any questions or concerns they may have regarding this league.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be kicking off for the spring and summer Recreation Leagues beginning January 28th, 2013.

Clarksville Firefighters Association giving away Smoke Detectors
Clarksville TN – The Clarksville Firefighters Association is conducting their annual smoke detector give-away, providing life saving devices to those in need this holiday season. The Firefighters Association is working with Manna Cafe Ministries to reach the most people in need.
They held their first event Thursday night, and will be at the Vacation Motel located in New Providence at 650 Providence Boulevard next Tuesday night December 11th from 5:00pm-6:00pm

Kenwood Elementary Principal Announced
Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville Montgomery County School System has named Kim Masters principal of Kenwood Elementary School, replacing Sallie Oden who will serve as principal of the new Pisgah Elementary.

“Caring at Christmas for Coley” fundraiser for girl with leukemia
Clarksville TN – It’s the season for giving, and there’s no better gift, than the gift of life. One Clarksville girl understands that all too well. Coley Moore, a server at Ruby Tuesday, was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year and is in need of financial assistance to help pay medical bills brought on by the illness.
This Saturday, December 8th, when you dine at the Madison Street Ruby Tuesday, twenty percent of all non-alcoholic proceeds will go to Coley. Volunteer mentors needed for new Clarksville Parks and Recreation Dream Chasers program
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is seeking mentors! Volunteer mentors are needed for the upcoming Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program.
Mentors will be working with at-risk youth, ages 13-17 in a small group atmosphere. Small group leaders, guided by professionals, will mentor youth as they discuss dealing with negative influences that affect teens and will promote making healthy and informed decisions. [Read more]
APSU history professor David Rands publishes work on Koreans in Japan
Clarksville, TN – Dr. David Rands, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of history and the school’s new East Asia expert, previously spent nine years in Japan where he noticed something unusual about that country’s two major cities – Tokyo and Osaka.
Specifically, he realized the cities attracted two completely different immigrant populations from neighboring Korea. A certain type of Korean preferred Osaka while another type chose to live in Tokyo. When Rands returned to the U.S. to pursue his Ph.D. in history at the University of Southern California, he discovered that no one had really examined these fascinating migratory patterns before.
