APSU’s The Peay Read features ‘Saints at the River’ author Ron Rash speaking in the Dunn Center September 26th
Clarksville, TN – One of the highlights of Austin Peay State University’s annual reading initiative, The Peay Read, is the special presentation from the book’s author.
The common reading assignment for the Fall 2013 semester is “Saints at the River” by Ron Rash, who will speak at 7:00pm, Thursday, September 26th in the Dunn Center at APSU. The talk is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow his talk.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation to host Fishing Derby for special needs children and adults
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to host the first Adaptive Fishing Derby at Bel-Aire Pool, located at 124 Marie Drive, on Saturday, August 31st from 8:00am to 2:30pm.
Clarksville’s Time2Shine to hold Car Wash Fundraiser to help train Service Dogs for Military Veterans
Clarksville, TN – Army Veteran-owned “Time2Shine” car wash and valet detailing service is holding a fundraiser/car wash on Saturday, August 3rd, from 10:00am–5:00pm offering free car washes to support Raja Renata Ranch.
RRR rescues dogs from high kill shelters and private owners, and trains them as service dogs for our military veterans. These dogs are more than pets; they are trained therapy dogs, agility dogs and service companions.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation to Extend Season for Select City Pools through Labor Day
Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be closing their public pools for the summer season on Sunday, August 4th.
However, New Providence Pool and Beachaven Pool will be extending the Summer Swim Season. Current summer pool passes will be honored during the extended hours.
Clarksville Youth Educational Excursion

St Louis, MO – Youth from Clarksville, Tennessee embarked on an educational excursion that began with the Missouri Historical Museum where they learned about the Missouri’s rich history and viewed the NFL Hall of Fame exhibits.
The next day the group went on a walking guided tour around them Arch prior to taking the tram to take in St Louis from the top followed by a Riverboat cruise. Upon disembarking the group visited the Historical Courthouse where the Dred Scott Trail took place and were able to participate in the reenactment of the trial.
APSU Employees share recent professional developments, activities
Clarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of publications, conferences and credentials as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Chris Burawa, director of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, has had several professional developments. He translated from Icelandic a short story by Óskar Magnússon, “Dr. Amplatz,” which will be published in Best European Fiction 2014 by Dalkey Archive Press. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University ROTC cadet Cynthia Stinnett earns top honor in regiment
Clarksville, TN – In early July, Austin Peay State University announced that Cynthia Stinnett, a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet, took top honors during the 8th Regiment Army physical fitness test held recently at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.
Now she has another accolade to add to her resume.
