APSU’s Acuff Circle of Excellence seeking 2014 Ovation Award nominations
Clarksville, TN – The Acuff Circle of Excellence, a nonprofit patron society of the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is seeking nominations for the coveted Ovation Awards, presented annually since 1996.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations.
While the Ovation Awards will be presented at a celebration on March 2nd, 2014, at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center, nominations are being sought now through Friday, January 17th, 2014. [Read more]
Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County to hold 1st Annual Pit Bull Awareness Day
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, October 26th, 2013, the Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County will hold Clarksville’s 1st Annual Pit Bull Awareness Day from 11:00am until 4:00pm. Come out to Rural King and join fellow pittie lovers for a costume contest, photos and free doggie treats.
There will be free spay-neuter vouchers for Pit Bulls or close bully mixes provided by by the Clarksville Humane Society.
Friends of Dunbar Cave Annual Fall Hike at Dunbar Cave State Park October 18th-19th
Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave and the Starcatcher Initiative would like to invite you to “Animal Tales: The Tale of Hansel and Gretel.”
Join Barty the Bat, Roxy Raccoon, Ophelia the Owl and Park Ranger Skip as they share tales of Dunbar Cave history and the adventures of Hansel and Gretel while touring Clarksville’s only state park at night.
Go Commando Runner Provides Awareness to Gun Violence
Clarksville, TN – Every day, law enforcement across the United States step out onto the streets in an effort to protect and serve. Their dedication extends across the communities they patrol and within their own community of officers.
This year, on October 19th, one of Montgomery County’s own will run in the Go Commando Half Marathon & 5k powered by CDE Lightband in honor of his fellow officers and to raise awareness about a very real threat to police officers everywhere.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Veterans Day Parade to be held November 9th
Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, November 9th, with pre-parade ceremonies set for 9:00am in front of the historic courthouse (south side) on Third Street in Downtown Clarksville.
Keynote speaker is Mary Ross, national commander of Women Veterans of America, with remarks by Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers and Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan.
Famed Marine Corps General to speak at APSU Military Alumni Dinner on October 25th
Clarksville, TN – In July 1977, a young Austin Peay State University graduate named Ronald Bailey was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Thirty-four years later, in June 2011, that APSU graduate became the first African American commanding general of the 1st Marine Division, the oldest and largest infantry division in the Marine Corps.
