Clarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of achievements as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Dr. Dixie Dennis, associate provost for grants and dean of the College of Graduate Studies, recently contributed three chapters to the new scholarly book, “The A-Z of Death and Dying: Social, Medical, and Cultural Aspects,” edited by Michael Brennan. Dennis wrote the chapters, “Definition of Death,” “Funerals” and “Near-Death Experiences.” [Read more]
Clarksville Montgomery County School System selects Melissa Izatt to Lead Substitute Teacher Program
Montgomery County, TN – Please join the Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) HR Department in welcoming Melissa Izatt to the role of Substitute Program Manager.
Izatt will be transitioning from Assistant Principal at Glenellen Elementary School to the new Substitute Program Manager position this month.

Mason Bellamy Named Head of Special Education, Jessica Harris Selected Hazelwood Principal
Montgomery County, TN – Dr. Mason Bellamy has been named Director of Services for Exceptional Children beginning March 17th. Dr. Bellamy has served as principal of Hazelwood Elementary School since 2012. He will replace Cara Alexander who is retiring.

Acclaimed journalist Soledad O’Brien to speak at APSU Unity event March 25th
Clarksville, TN – The award-winning broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. Her reporting on Haitian orphanages following a massive earthquake in that country earned her an Emmy, and her work for CNN during Hurricane Katrina brought her and the network a George Foster Peabody Award.
At 7:00pm on March 25th, O’Brien will speak at the Memorial Health Gym (Red Barn) on the Austin Peay State University campus as part of the annual Student Affairs Unity Celebration. O’Brien will deliver a speech titled “Diversity: On TV, Behind the Scenes and In Our Lives.”
Clarksville-Area Chamber of Commerce crowns 2014 Miss River Queen & Teen
Clarksville, TN – Bailey Piercefield has been named Miss River Queen 2014, while Macy Moyer will reign as the new Miss River Teen. The new titleholders were crowned at the pageant held Saturday, March 8th at Austin Peay State University’s Clement Auditorium. They will be moving on to compete at the Miss Tennessee USA and Miss Tennessee Teen USA Pageants.

New Watauga Summer Arts Camp at APSU now accepting applications
Clarksville, TN – Applications are now being accepted for the Watauga Arts Academy, a new summer arts camp hosted by Austin Peay State University, in cooperation with the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts.
This two-week summer program is designed for high school students (grades 9-12) who have a passion and interest in the creative arts.
APSU Honors Program students excel at state conference
Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Honors Program recently attended the Tennessee Collegiate Honors Council state conference at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN.
The APSU program brought 13 students to the conference and boasted six student presentations.

The Humane Society depends 100% on fundraising, donations and grants to help animals and families in the community, so please come out and show your support. Despite what our name might imply, they are not “funded” by the city or county, so your support of fundraisers like this is super important.
APSU art students earn several awards and scholarships
Clarksville, TN – February turned out to be a good month for the Austin Peay State University Department of Art, with several students earning prestigious awards and scholarships.
Graphic design student Brooke Mckee was awarded a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) scholarship for winning a Design Center student competition to design the visual identity for TBR’s Critical Conversations Initiative. [Read more]
