2014 Rivers and Spires Festival Attendance Tops 41,000
Clarksville, TN – It was a record setting year for Clarksville’s 2014 Rivers and Spires, as the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville saw over 41,000 Festival attendees over the April 24th-26th weekend.
Festival organizers say that this year’s event was the second largest Rivers and Spires to date, falling right behind the 2010 Festival.
Austin Peay State University receives $100k grant for expanding “My Future” system
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University was awarded a $100,000 grant earlier this week to expand and enhance its innovative My Future system. The system, unveiled in 2012, uses predictive analytics to help students pick majors in fields where they will likely find academic success.
The grant was awarded through EDUCAUSE’s Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) initiative. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association that supports the role of information technology in higher education. [Read more]
Friends of Dunbar Cave’s Spring Fling event to be held May 10th, 2014
Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave have announced the schedule for this year’s Spring Fling event to be held (rain or shine) on May 10th, 2014. All activities begin at the Visitor’s Center and are free of charge. Snacks will be provided for a modest donation. Children must supervised by an adult.

Annual Card Party returns to APSU May 21st
Clarksville, TN – The semester is coming to a close at Austin Peay State University, which means it’s time for the annual Card Party on campus.
This year’s event, featuring games of Rook, Bridge and other card games, will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 21st, at the Morgan University Center Ballroom.

Girl Scouts and Beachaven Winery to Host Second Annual Girl Scout Cookie and Wine Pairing Fundraiser
Clarksville, TN – Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee and Beachaven Winery will host the Second Annual ‘Recipes for Success’ Girl Scout Cookie and wine pairing fundraising event on May 20th.
The event will take place at Beachaven Vineyards & Winery from 5:00pm–7:00pm and is for adults 21 and over. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers are honorary co-chairs. [Read more]
Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts to speak at Austin Peay State University Spring Commencement
Clarksville, TN – Tennessee state Representative Joe Pitts often refers to himself as “a proud 1980 graduate of Austin Peay State University,” and on May 9th, he’ll return to his alma mater to deliver the keynote address at the University’s 85th Spring Commencement.
He will speak at both commencement events, at 9:00am and 2:00pm, in the APSU Dunn Center.
Clarksville’s Rivers and Spires Gig City Gaming center an experience not to be missed
Clarksville, TN – On Friday, April 25th, CDE Lightband held a kick off event for their Gig City Gaming center at the Rivers and Spires Festival. The gaming center is powered by CDE’s new gigabit internet service. All games are free to play.
Before the ceremony, Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers and Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan faced off on Dance Dance Revolution. They both had a good with this gaming experience.
Community invited to receptions with finalists for APSU President job
Clarksville, TN – The four candidates vying to become the next president of Austin Peay State University will arrive on campus in the next few weeks for a series of meetings, interviews, tours and forums.
During these visits, community members are invited to attend special receptions to meet with these individuals.

Rivers and Spires Festival to have Johnsonville Brats cooked on World’s Largest Touring Grill in Downtown Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill™ annual nationwide tour makes it’s way to Clarksville’s Rivers and Spires Festival this weekend, April 24th-26th. Providing more than just tasty-tailgate sausages, the Big Taste Grill also raises money for local charities.
To date, the Big Taste Grill program has raised more than $3.5 million for a variety of charities nationwide, many of them local community organizations. In 2013 alone, the Johnsonville Big Taste Grill raised more than $130,000 for different organizations nationwide and served 121,325 brats during its 9-month tour.

Hilltop Super Market’s 5th Annual BBQ Cook Off to be held May 2nd and 3rd

Clarksville, TN – The 5th annual BBQ Cook Off will be held May 10th and 11th, 2014 at Hilltop Super Market. There will be cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishing teams per category as well as trophy prizes. There will also be a Grand Champion.
Team sign ups are going on now. The Categories are ribs, chicken, pork and brisket.
