APSU’s New Governors Stadium to be community venue

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – On Monday afternoon, crews with Bell Construction put the finishing touches on the new, Governors Stadium at Austin Peay State University. Yellow asphalt rollers smoothed out the front entrance and parking lot while workers secured railings to stairwells and swept up loose clumps of dirt.

Everything was being checked and cleaned for the $19 million facility’s grand opening at 10:00am, this Saturday, September 13th.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Youth Basketball League registration is underway

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Is your child interested in playing basketball this winter? Clarksville Parks and Recreation is proud to offer a Youth Basketball League for boys and girls ages 7 to 15.

The cost is $65.00 per player. Each player will receive a jersey, water bottle and award.

Clarksville Police Department Honored with Multiple Awards at 27th Annual Tennessee Lifesavers Conference

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO), the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP), and the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association (TSA) have joined forces to strengthen and support traffic enforcement nationwide by providing the Law Enforcement Challenge program, an innovative program designed to stimulate traffic law enforcement activities.

The program targets three major traffic safety priorities: occupant protection, impaired driving, and speeding.

Handmade Holidays vendor applications are now available

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Wilma Rudolph Event Center, located at Liberty Park, is currently seeking craft vendors to participate in Handmade Holidays.

This year’s two-day event is scheduled to take place Saturday, November 15th, 2014 from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, November 16th, 2014 from noon to 4:00pm.

Clarksville Fire RescueClarksville, TN – On Thursday, September 11th, 2014, Clarksville Fire Rescue will hold the annual ceremony honoring fallen firefighters and victims of the 9-11 tragedy. The event will begin at 6:00pm at the Main Fire Station, 802 Main Street, in Clarksville.

“This annual ceremony is an important event to our community and I am honored to be a part of it,” said Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan. “I encourage everyone to join us and to stop and remember our fallen firefighters and the victims of 9-11. Several renowned musicians to visit APSU this year as Acuff Chairs of Excellence

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – When Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto first premiered in Prague in October 1791, the famed piece sounded much different than what audiences often hear today.

The composer’s friend, Anton Stadler, used a basset clarinet in that first performance, but the instrument fell out of favor in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Modern performances of the work are simply faint echoes of the how the piece was originally conceived.

Dr. Kadi Bliss, assistant professor of health and human performance, earned her Ph.D. in health education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Hilltop SupermarketClarksville, TN – The Saint Thomas Health Our Mission in Motion Mobile Mammography Coach will be at Hilltop Supermarket’s parking lot this Saturday, September 6th, 2014 from 9:00am until 3:00pm.

The coach provides mammography for women who cannot afford the time away from work for appropriate screenings. It also helps women with no insurance through support from organizations like Susan G. Komen.
